  • Looks like the Tomic link didn't work.
    [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVKcC2dPcGg"]Ante Tomić vs Serbia - Ex-Yu Cup Final - YouTube[/nomedia]

The clip says he had 13 points, 14 rebounds, 2 dimes and a block.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

14 boards? That's quadruple his average.

          • Turkey just played three more games this weekend...Kanter's numbers from what I can gather:

In a 62-38 loss to Greece, Kanter was scoreless in 4 minutes

In a 66-60 win against Belgium, Kanter went for 7 points 8 rebs in 14 minutes

In a 64 - 52 loss to Germany (Dirk and Kaman played), he had 8 points, 1 reb in 6:30 in just the first half and was team high scorer. During that six minute stretch he outscored Germany 8-5 and he had all but two of Turkey's points. Kanter finished with 12 pts, 4 reb in 13 minutes (9th on the team in mins) and was team high scorer - only player in double figures.

Take note Jazz fans, Kanter may be finding his legs...14 pts 6 rebs in 16 minutes today vs New Zealand.

So for those keeping track (most likely just me, but whatevs) that is 33 pts 18 rebs in his last 43 minutes of action against solid competition. That is impressive for anybody, but for a 19 year old who hadn't played meaningful basketball in the previous two years and who rarely has a play called for him, it's quite ridiculous. All of a sudden, the comparison to JV is looking a lot better for Kanter.

              • And then his coach says this:

Enes Kanter’s Turkish coach say he’s not NBA ready

                Kurt Helin

                Aug 23, 2011, 11:55 PM EDT

Earlier today we told you how frustrated Utah Jazz draft pick Enes Kanter is with not having been able to play much the last couple of years (what with the NCAA sidelining him at Kentucky and now the lockout). We also have told you how that has impacted his game — he’s shown potential in one-on-one situations on both ends of the floor, but when it comes to teamwork concepts (like help defense) he’s looked lost.

Which is our way of saying there is potential in there, but it’s going to take some work to get it out.

But a Turkish coach, speaking with the blog beyondthebeat.net before a EuroBasket tuneup in Germany, was far more direct — he’s not ready for the NBA.

“All the coaching staff and people around basketball think that it is too early for him to go there (to the NBA),” said Nihat Izic, an assistant head coach of the Turkey National Team told Beyond the Beat.

“He has the chance to play in the Euro League and then after that, when you feel you are ready, then you go to the NBA. He decided to go, and I’m not sure who gave him that advice. I don’t want to go there.”

Since Kanter went No. 3 overall he could say “NBA scouts think I am.” More accurately it would be scouts think he has a lot of potential and he is going to paid a lot of money to learn on the job.

But Utah fans should be warned — there is a lot of learning to do. This is a project that may not pay off for a few years. Patience, Jazz fans, patience.

I watched some highlights of JV and he looked very Hassan Whiteside to me. Long slender frame kid who could outbounce everyone, but it had me wondering how he'll translate. Right now it seems like he doesn't have the frame/strength for the NBA, but I guess that's why people say he a bit more of a project.

He's young so take this opinion with a grain of salt but I worry about his court vision a lot. He's big, he's physical, he runs the court well but in the few highlight reels that I've watched I see that when he receives the ball he immediately gets tunnel vision. The double didn't come in these highlights but as he demonstrated against better competition, when that double comes he's not prepared to react to it. Yes, I know this will be a learning process but I've seen that look before and it concerns me. With many it's not so easily unlearned to try and score despite the double team. To me that is the priority in his development and thankfully it appears to be the most aggregious.

                            • I've definitely noticed that as well. Hopefully it's just a function of what was mentioned in the article above.
