You don't show a guy passing out of the post in a highlight reel very often. You show every shot the guy takes or makes. Based only on highlight reels, every non point guard is a ball hog. I wouldn't worry about that right now. I am more encouraged by his aggressiveness on offense. It seems like more of an attitude than something a coach can instill.

Lets stay positive. He looks like a bigger, better version of Carlos Boozer (who has similar "tunnel vision"). That ain't bad.

I don't get MG's comment about his frame being too small and a Hassan Whiteside. But I've never seen Whiteside play. I don't think Kanter's frame and strength are going to be a problem.

Still. Best thing for Kanter is no NBA season, and he plays a year in Euro league and the Jazz don't waste a year of his rookie deal.

The kid's really got a great motor going after rebounds -- looks like a potential beast on the glass. Also makes two really nice moves on the block.

              • While nothing earth shattering, Kanter continues his consistent play and has probably been Turkey's best player over the last 4-5 games. Led the team in scoring and rebounding with 13 and 8 last night in 20 minutes against Montenegro.

I love Utah. I just can't stay somewhere year-round. That's why I end up moving in the summer. You've got to get away sometimes."

                  • There's a new article on insider comparing how the Jazz and Nuggets made out after dealing their superstars.

When the Denver Nuggets and Utah Jazz traded their star players one day apart, it was only natural to compare the way the two deals played out. Beyond the matter of chronology, the package the Jazz got from the Nets in return for Deron Williams was essentially the same package the Nuggets passed on, opting to send Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups to the New York Knicks instead.
Thanks to the deal, the Jazz can boast a pair of lottery picks from each of the last two drafts (Favors, Kanter, Alec Burks and Gordon Hayward), something no other NBA team can match. Those four players figure to form the core of Utah's next contending team.

In particular, the Jazz are counting on Favors to develop into an anchor in the middle. After one season at Georgia Tech and one in the NBA, Favors is badly in need of polish. At the same time, his potential is evident. Already, Favors is dominant on the offensive glass and capable at the defensive end. In time, he will have to develop the ability to score in the post. Already, there are positive signs in this process. Favors increased his usage rate nearly to league average after the trade without sacrificing his shooting percentage.

All-Stars Chris Bosh and Jermaine O'Neal rank among Favors' four most similar players at the same age from the SCHOENE Projection System. O'Neal might be the best comparison. If Favors follows a similar development path, he'll be ready for his close-up in 2013-14. By then, players similar to Favors averaged 6.8 wins above replacement, a projection that puts Favors among the league's top 20 players that season.

Hayward also made strides during the course of his rookie season. Overmatched early on, Hayward shot a stunning 54.5 percent from beyond the arc after the All-Star break to become an efficient scorer. The fresh-faced Butler product announced his presence in a late-season upset of the Lakers, scoring 22 points and beating Kobe Bryant off the dribble for a highlight-reel dunk. Hayward followed up that performance with 34 more in the season finale against Denver.

If Hayward can shoot around 45% from 3 in this imaginary season that is upcoming I will be very impressed and may even buy his jersey (maybe I'll wait until he signs an extension).

Well, then I wouldn't worry about buying his jersey. The odds of him shooting in that range from 3 are very slim. I would be happy with something in the range of the high 30s.

                            • I believe today is the start of the real deal, so Turkey just won their first round game.

Turkey is in Group A of the tourney matching them up with Spain, Poland, GB, Portugal and Lithuania. So we get to see a Kanter v. Valanciunas mathup in 2 days and a Kanter v. Gasol matchup on the 5th. They play 5 games in 6 days here.

Given their group, they've got a shot at advancing, but Spain and Lithuania are the favorites, and Lithuania is the host. It looks like 3 teams advance from each group.

Should be an interesting week. Very nice to see Kanter essentially leading the team today in a game that really counts.

Kanter is owning this lockout. What other player has the kind of experience he does sitting out without hoops for an extended period of time? It's going to be second nature to him. He's all but got the ROY wrapped up.
