My ideal Jazz lineup for the 2010-11 season:

PG - DWill/Price
SG - Korver/Mathews
SF - AK/CJ/Hayward
PF - Millsap/Gortat/Memo
C - Memo/Gortat/Big Z

Jazz sign and trade Booz for Orlando and get Gortat/Hedo's exception in return. I'm also not sure that the Jazz get Big Z and Korver, as one is likely to get the full mid-level, but you Jazz might be willing to go over the cap knowing AK's salary comes off next summer.

Of course the Jazz will go in a completely different direction to drop salary and get under the cap as was evidenced by the odd trades last season.

He also later tweeted that there was a mix up with office/cell phone numbers and the Jazz have been in contact with Korver and his people today.

But yeah. Not a good start to free agency.

I wasn't aware that Minnesota had signed Euro big man Pekovic to a 3 year contact. I know they were pretty high on him when they took him w/the first pick of the 2nd round last year (or the year before).

Gortat's 3.6 pts and 4 reb in 13 min is uninspiring to say the least. I don't care that he backed up Howard, you need more production than less than 1 block per game. If Tomic is the guy than forget about the Raul Lopez fiasco, bite the bullet, get him over here and into the weight room. A talented big isn't a trade piece, it's an asset.

I don't see what's uninspiring about 4 pts, 4 rebs and 1 reb in 13 minutes. For the third straight year (maybe the first year doesn't count) he was an extremely productive player in the minutes he was on the floor. He's a very good rebounder (his rebound rate would have put him second on the Jazz behind Boozer), he a good shot-blocker (his blocks rate easily bests anyone on our roster), a good overall defender, and he's a competent scorer. If he played regular minutes, I could see him doing something close to a double-double plus two blocks a game.

If you can add another player (like Redick or Bass), I agree with CJ that that's pretty good value for a guy you could be losing for nothing.

If you’re hoping that Orlando Magic GM Otis Smith is working on a sign-and-trade for Jazz forward Carlos Boozer, go buy a lottery ticket.

Your chances of winning are greater.

Orlando Sentinel Magic guru Brian Schmitz reports:

Tony Dutt, agent for Rashard Lewis and Brandon Bass, said a rumored sign-and-trade deal between the Magic and the Utah Jazz “has no legs.”

Various versions of the rumor have the Magic packaging Marcin Gortat and Bass in a deal for free agent Carlos Boozer, but sources close to the Magic say they aren’t interested in Boozer, a close friend of Dwight Howard’s.

It’s way too early to rule anything out, but as of right now it looks like that trade rumor is just a lot of overblown speculation.

The possibility of a sign-and-trade deal with the Orlando Magic, meanwhile, remains very much alive — contrary to a report out of Orlando suggesting otherwise.

The Orlando Sentinel reported Thursday that prominent NBA agent Tony Dutt, who represents the Magic's Rashard Lewis and Brandon Bass, "said a rumored sign-and-trade deal between the Magic and the Utah Jazz 'has no legs.' "

The Jazz, however, are known to have interest in several players on the Magic roster, one that includes Bass, big man Marcin Gortat, swingman Mickael Pietrus and restricted free agent shooting guard J.J. Redick.

Boozer is a good friend of Magic star Dwight Howard, and if the Magic were to be interested in acquiring the Jazz star, it's quite likely Utah would be willing to entertain sign-and-trade talk.

He only makes $1.9 M, but with the Jazz as a third team their trade exception might make a trade a possibility. I think Jefferson at $13 M is definitely the preferable option to Biedrins for Utah, assuming his knees are healthy. But his contract escalates each year ($13 M/$14 M/$15 M) whereas Biedrins has a set $9 M salary for the next 4 years of his contract (final year is a player option) and he is 2 years younger.

- Minnesota receives Anthony Randolph, Utah trade exceptions (totaling $10.5 M), Warriors 2011 first round pick. Since no sign and trade has to be done, this move could be done immediately, giving Minnesota a ton of cap space to pursue free agents before they're gone. They reportedly love David Lee, and this move could let them land Randolph and a pick, plus give Lee big money that he might not get elsewhere.

- Golden State receives Al Jefferson and Memphis pick via Utah. Not sure how he fits, but they've talked about wanting to get bigger and tougher...meaning Nelson has to be in his last year coaching there.

- Utah receives Andris Biedrins. Not anywhere near the offensive threat Jefferson is, but he's much more active on defense, and might be much more useful in a structured system as opposed to what he's been playing with in GS. Making this kind of move assumes the only S&T worked out w/Boozer is with a team under the cap, bringing back Utah only trade exceptions, cash, or future picks.

I like Biedrins, but especially coming off this past season, it sure seems the Jazz get the short end of this deal.

You cant combine trade exceptions so it won't work. I like the idea in principle though.
