  • I wonder who the Jazz will have in for free agent workouts? Someone from the Hayden Lake area? Blonde-haired blue-eyed Argentine with a German accent? Does Ben Handgloten still have game? Would Kelly Tripuka consider a few 10 day contracts?

It's funny, I have been watching highlight vids of the Hayward and asked myself how is this guy better than Jimmer.

He is 6'8". And his team went to the Championship. And those are the only reasons.

Yes. And it's too big an asset not to deal for some talent around the deadline.

Hayward will be the starting 3 at some point this season.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

          • And then we draft another SF. Take a chance on N'Diaye or something.

            • You need size, the Big East defensive player of the year is sitting on the board and he's 7', and you take another wing. Way to go!

I was trolling funk -- having some fun.

In all sincerity I don't think Hayward is that bad of a pick. There wasn't anyone else on the board that was going to give them the length they need and since they were unsuccessful in trading up why not go with a calculated risk. The key here is he's a good defender, not only because he's got a high basketball IQ but because he's very athletic. He's 20 years old and there is time for him to bulk up.

I am really disappointed they didn't take Jon Scheyer in the second round though

                  • With Vazquez and Bradley both going in round 1, I bet Jimmer wishes he came out.

At least we went physical and strong in the 2nd round.

                        • Sloan said in an interview he basically has no chance of breaking into the rotation, NICE!

The pick looks worse today than yesterday. I hope this signals an active offseason since this pick doesn't improve their team this or probably next year.

I love that the Jazz build teams that compete every year for a Division 'Ship! Wunderbar!

                          • Deron reportedly likes the pick and the Jazz were consulting with him for two days leading up to the draft.

Oh well. I'm still getting my #8 Lakers jersey ready.

Truer words have never been spoken.

In all seriousness (trying to climb down from the cliff's edge) I've got to believe this move signals the Jazz intention to trade AK come Hell or highwater, and possibly Okur early this offseason. If they think Hayward can fill the 3 position and even the 4 with a smaller lineup and do so at 1/5th of the salary than AK is gone. (My reasons to believe Okur is gone are more personal and less objective and stem from a purely selfish desire to see his road game go on a permanent sabbatical to the Eastern Conference.)

I refuse to believe the Jazz intend to start training camp with just 1 NBA caliber player in the middle. I think clinicially they call this "denial".

Of course he loves it its one less scrub he has to pass to.

In addition, it hastens his exit and gives the Jazz no bargaining chips in two years. I can see the conversation now, 'Deron, how come you don't want to play here? We got Gangsta Hayward, Undersized Sap, Dancing Fesenko, and Gorgeous Koufos, this team is a winner.'
