There is no way. We'll see what happens, but there is no way the Jazz pay him near $6 million. They'd be stupid to. He's a nice bench player, at best.

If he gets the full MLE, he's gone. Jazz won't match. Around $4 mil per and I think he stays. I think he showed last year he can be a solid starter. Not an All Star but kid averaged 10 points a game in the season and 13 in the playoffs. Played good defense. Hit 38% from the 3 over the course of the season. As a 4th or 5th starter, that is not bad production.

Radio nerds were apparently saying yesterday that the Jazz shied away from a big in the draft because they like Tomic better than anything left on the board. Interesting if true.

Boozer to Orlando?

Carlos Boozer is expected to sign with either Miami, New York, New Jersey or Chicago. He could re-sign with Utah, however that's unlikely because that would put the Jazz over the tax threshold. Another team that might have interest in Boozer is Orlando. He could only go to Central Florida via a sign-and-trade.

From the Deseret News: "As for the Orlando sign-and-trade possibility, CBSSports.com on Wednesday identified Boozer as being on Magic star Dwight Howard's 'short list' of preferred offseason acquisitions. The Magic's official team website addressed a potential Boozer-to-Orlando scenario earlier this week. The Magic are over the NBA's team payroll salary cap, though, so obtaining Boozer would have to involve a sign-and-trade deal between Orlando and Utah."

The Salt Lake Tribune reports Boozer will give the Jazz the first shot at signing him to a new contract. According to the newspaper, the Jazz will probably have to offer a six-year deal to keep Boozer.

I've said that both Booz and Okur would fit in Orlando beside Howard. My preference would be to trade Memo for Gortat and change, adn I think that may be better for Orlando because of the 3 point shooting. But Memo is not healthy and can't be traded.

So, I'd be OK with Boozer to Orlando for Gortat and Peitrus or Bass. But to do this, Orlando would have to work out a trade to get rid of Carter or Lewis. Carter is in his last year, so that could happen, and Lewis would move back to the 3.

Also, working out with Boozer could be great for Dwight. Imagine Dwight learning Boozer's footwork.

As a 4th or a 5th starter, he is absolutely. He does what a role player needs to do. Play defense, hustle, hit open shots. I doubt he gets much better but I am absolutely fine with what he is. A 10+ ppg guy that hits close to 40% from the 3 and plays solid D, I don't know what more you expect from starter 4/5.

As a rookie, he shot 50/40/90 for a hefty chunk of the season (primarily once being put in as a full-time starter), he played above average defense, and he showed in just one year that he could improve his shooting and defense from what he did in college.

No way do you see that from a rookie and say he can't be a good starter.

IOW, when you factor in their minutes, they were essentially producing at the same rate, only Wes can shoot and Brewer couldn't.

Matthews also had the advantage of more regular minutes, instead of playing for a few weeks and then sitting, playing and then sitting. Did he earn it more than Brewer did? Who knows with Sloan.

But comparing Matthews to a 4th year Brewer doesn't make much sense. But neither does proclaiming a player as being an inadequate starter w/o addressing what other pieces are around him in the starting lineup and what other players come off the bench. Or taking a guy's rookie production, especially one as consistent and efficient as Matthews', and assuming that is what his production is going to be going forward.

If your two is expected to create his own offense, absolutely. If your system is primarily run through screen and rolls with the PG and PF or pick and pops with your 5, then you don't expect more.

Defenses also sagged off of Brewer. Matthews at least kept them honest. The extra spacing makes Boozer/Sap and Derons job much easier.

The same reason they aren't going after Lebron, Amare, Joe Johnson, Dwayne Wade, Dirk, Paul Pierce, etc. Because they don't have the cap space. They can retain Boozer because he is their own free agent and go into luxury tax territory, or can use booze in a s&t to get something in return. But even without Booze they are still over the cap thanks to Memo AK and Derons deals, so they can't go after any other non-mid level free agent.
