Right after I posted that, Maynor started to take it back at Lafayette and has probably had the better game overall.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostTo be fair, Maynor is looking pretty good out there.
And Austin Ainge looks like he's functioning as the head coach for the Celts. Funny.
I'm surprised at how well Harangody has been playing. He isn't shy, but he's knocking them down.I'm like LeBron James.

Harangody is looking way too good to have been a late second round pick.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostI'm surprised at how well Harangody has been playing. He isn't shy, but he's knocking them down.
Unrelated question for the board: Any chance the Jazz make an offer for Ronnie Brewer? Yeah, that's probably a crazy question and I would guess that Utah wouldn't be Ronnie's first choice assuming he gets a few offers.
I like Brewer and was kind of surprised Memphis wouldn't give him the 3.7 million to keep him around next season.

My thoughts on thefree-throw shooting competitiongame.
Gaines - Contrary to BGR's absurd observation*, Gaines was by far the best player on the court for the Jazz and the only one who appeared ready for minutes this fall. It appears he's worked hard in the weight room. He struggled from the free throw line, but played solid defense and seemed comfortable in the Jazz's offense. I'd be curious to know if he's spent time working/playing with Deron.
Hayward - I have to admit I was impressed with his passing, ability to move without the ball, and his patience. Not a great defender, but didn't make any mistakes. Did a great job running a fast break with the ball in his hands. On the other-hand, he needs to get on the Wynn Diet and gain 25 lbs. yesterday. He will get abused on the block until he does. Passing on the last shot was also discouraging. After all he did in March, he should have wanted to take the shot.
Koufos - Still a poor defender and rebounder. Not sure how a seven footer doesn't completely control the glass in a summer league game.
Jeffers - Made a couple nice drives. Decent player and possible end of the bench guy.
Augustine - Has some nice offensive moves on the block, but was constantly out of position on defense. Intrigued to see more of him this week.
Evans - The Flash are waiting.
*{Edit} I threw that in due to my, almost, complete agreement with his assessment.Last edited by SloanHater; 07-05-2010, 09:10 PM.

Since he was at Georgia, I've known Gaines just isn't a very good PG - that said, even I was surprised at how bad he was today. It's never a good combination when you are a PG and you can't run an offense or shoot the ball. Gaines, based on that game, still has no idea how to be a PG and he makes Keith McLeod look like Larry Bird shooting the ball. Tyrese Rice sucks, yet he appeared to be decidedly better than Gaines. Gaines was painful to watch out there.Originally posted by SloanHater View PostGaines - Contrary to BGR's absurd observation*, Gaines was by far the best player on the court for the Jazz and the only one who appeared ready for minutes this fall. Gaines is probably the main reason I can't criticize Hayward too much - it's hard to get going when playing with a PG who would rather put his head down and hope he gets fouled (why would he hope that? he can't make them) rather than set his teammates up for easy hoops.I'm like LeBron James.

Ugh. I'm losing hope for KK, which is disappointing because as a rookie he at least showed something. Seems like the kid is going in reverse.Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View PostAugustine > Koufos. KK has clearly been working on his guns more than he has his game. That is a guy that should fully be expected to dominate the lane and glass, a 7', 260 lb big man entering his 3rd year in the league. Bigs may not get the ball enough and in decent enough positions to get a good read on them offensively in summer league, but KK still looked lost on way too many possessions and wasn't anywhere close to the physical presence he should have been.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Some Thorpe thoughts from today's game.oach Thorpe: Koufos looks much stronger and broader.
Zach Harper (Hardwood Paroxysm/TrueHoop Network): Boozer has to wait for the Chris Bosh chip to fall. I'd imagine Orlando, Miami, New Jersey and Chicago are still the big destination spots.
Zach Harper (Hardwood Paroxysm/TrueHoop Network): Nice little hook by Koufos. Jazz need him to improve.
Zach Harper (Hardwood Paroxysm/TrueHoop Network): Tough assignment to have to check Gerald Henderson right out of bed. Hayward will be fine.
coachthorpe: Rod Benson has a presence here for Utah. Tough to play Ajinca, who is much taller and longer. He's fighting.
coachthorpe: The game is going 1000mph for Hayward now, but it's in slow motion for Henderson. Experience counts.
coachthorpe: Hayward is very light on his feet, meaning he is agile. I still see him as a 2 if he can get his shot dialed in. Mike Miller clone.
coachthorpe: Hayward very tentative. That will change by tomorrow I'd guess.
coachthorpe: The extra weight on Koufos has slowed him down. And he needs to get faster.
Zach Harper (Hardwood Paroxysm/TrueHoop Network): Gordon Hayward with the stroke.
coachthorpe: Hayward with his first attempt at a catch and shoot. Bucket from 19 feet.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

The Heat are talking to the Jazz and the Mavs about some combination of Boozer and Korver for Beasly and/or O'Neal.
For Dallas, they're looking at Haywood and some other guy."They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.
Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Well, I was trying to figure out how the money would work. Is it possible that it would be Boozer/Korver for Just O'Neal? Beasly is still in his rookie deal, so he can't have a huge cap number right now so maybe it is both for both. If I'm the Jazz, I try to pry a pick or picks from Miami if I even think about doing this deal.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostBoozer/Korver for Beasley/O'Neal is such an awful deal that it probably actually has legs.

That is what I kept thinking while watching yesterday, that he has definitely regressed from his limited time as a rookie. Which is really disappointing because everything we heard about Koufos at least led to the belief that he came into the league as a tremendous worker. I guess we'll just have to accept that he is yet another big that is as dumb as they come.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostUgh. Since the Heat are WAY under the cap, they they can take on Boozer's salary and trade away a much smaller contract. They could do Boozer/Beasly straight up. Neither O'neal nor Korver are under contract, so there is not reason that I can think of that they would need to be involved in the deal. O'Neal made 20m last year, and I can't see him making more than 1/4 that this year. And whatever he makes, he won't be getting a pay check from the Jazz.Originally posted by DrumNFeather View PostWell, I was trying to figure out how the money would work. But the overall point: Boozer for Beasley would be better than Boozer walking away for nothing. But it wouldn't be an inspiring deal. The only reason the Heat would want to trade Beasley for Boozer is if they are trying to out-bid another team for Boozer. I hope that is the case and a few stupid teams are willing to pay Boozer the kind of money NY is paying Amare so the Jazz can get something back in a sign and trade.Last edited by Jacob; 07-06-2010, 09:12 AM.

Day to day with an achilles tendon injury.Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View PostIs Dragicevic not with the summer league team?
It was, as always, absolutely fantastic to see Utah get 15 guys some action in the game. Dragicevic is the only one on the roster who didn't play.
Can we please see Hayward and Koufos for more than 25 minutes today?
