The point I'm making is that those comparisons are always entirely silly. Doesn't matter if the player is coming from HS, college or the Euro leagues.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostDeron had a larger sample of games against a better level of competition to base a judgement and comparison than DeShawn. Deron was also not compared to the greatest player in history.
Deron was compared to Kidd, but I didn't think there was a chance he'd as good or better than Kidd. I think at this point he is, though. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Unless they aren't silly. Jason Kidd with a jumpshot is probably an apt description of Deron.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostThe point I'm making is that those comparisons are always entirely silly. Doesn't matter if the player is coming from HS, college or the Euro leagues.
Sadly, I'm also afraid that maybe Haywards comparison of Luke Jackson may be dead on as well.

I still like my Scott Padgett comparison for Hayward better. Coincidentally, Padgett had a better career than Jackson.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostUnless they aren't silly. Jason Kidd with a jumpshot is probably an apt description of Deron.

Except for the part where Deron doesn't play all that much like Kidd with a jumpshot.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostUnless they aren't silly. Jason Kidd with a jumpshot is probably an apt description of Deron.
Anyway, we're getting beyond my point. When Deron was drafted, I don't recall anyone thinking he was going to be a top 6-8 player in the league. I still remember constant bitching from Jazz fans about how we blew the pick, how Felton and Jack were going to be better because Deron was fat, and how we could have had Webster, Channing Frye and Jack instead of Deron. lol.
If you can point me to a post where someone made a prediction of Deron getting to this level, I will retract my statement.Last edited by MarkGrace; 12-02-2010, 08:40 PM.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I agree with this. I didn't even think he was the best guard on his college team. And yes, I thought he was too doughy to hang with other PGs.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostExcept for the part where Deron doesn't play all that much like Kidd.

Agreed - even for a guy who was the 3rd overall, he has exceed all expectations. I remember seeing a lot of people saying they were hoping he would average about 15 and 8 during his prime - sort of an Andre Milleresque career, and being happy about it.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostExcept for the part where Deron doesn't play all that much like Kidd with a jumpshot.

Exactly. Those were about the expectations I remember. My prediction was that he'd be in the range of 16-17 and 8-9 in his prime, and I was one of the biggest Deron homers in Jazz land during those early years. A lot of people didn't think he'd get to that.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostAgreed - even for a guy who was the 3rd overall, he has exceed all expectations. Deron Williams tears can cure cancer. Too bad he's never cried."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

Doesn't Luke Jackson at least deserve an incomplete for having 2 back surgeries in his first two years in the NBA? I think healthy he could have at least been Jason Kapono.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostSadly, I'm also afraid that maybe Haywards comparison of Luke Jackson may be dead on as well.

This was one of the things I had been wondering about. Also with some of the types of businesses that LHM was involved in, it could be tough to get that much financing to pay the IRS.Originally posted by Jacob View PostI have no idea if they are leaving most of their estate to their kids, maybe they are leaving a big chunk to the church. But most of it won't pass from Gail's ownership until she passes away. At that time, there will be a huge tax bill (unless the money goes to the church or a private foundation...which a large chunk probably does). If it goes to the kids, they will probably be selling some businesses to pay the tax man. I wonder if they'll sell the Jazz.
At $13-26K a year, that is a lot of years to gift the company to the kids. Maybe Larry was smart and had a valuation of the team done in 2005.Get confident, stupid

That's what I'm expecting. When you think of Memo, you think of three things:
1. His three-point shooting
2. His smokin' hot wife (Yeliz, the former Miss Turkey)
3. His bed headSo Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.
