Phil will get the job. I like Laimbeer and think he'd be a good fit for a small market like Utah, but he'll be coaching somewhere next year. Izzo and Donovan would also be interesting if they'd leave the college game.

Follow up question, how long until you adopt (Newcoach)Hater as a moniker? The Jazz aren't winning a championship any time in the next 5-6 years so the next guy is already a failure.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostSH, who would you like to see replace Sloan?

I think 5 years is a good indicator.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostFollow up question, how long until you adopt (Newcoach)Hater as a moniker? The Jazz aren't winning a championship any time in the next 5-6 years so the next guy is already a failure.
I find it fascinating that Jazz Fans think a championship is so unrealistic that they've become content with winning 45+ games and making the playoffs.
[Edit] I think Horny will take a role as an assistant with Phil. I think he'd make a good head coach in Utah, if he wants it.Last edited by SloanHater; 05-10-2010, 11:07 PM.

The Jazz aren't going to go over the lux tax, and they are always going to be competitive enough to not get consistent top 5 picks. So yes a championship is not something that is going to come to the Jazz anytime soon.Originally posted by SloanHater View PostI think 5 years is a good indicator.

It is really pretty simple if the Jazz lose enough years to get guys in the draft the team will not make money and leave Utah, Larry isn't alive to make sure it stays anymore. If they win 40-50 games a year they aren't going to win a title either, but the team stays in SLC.
Unless you found the magic potion that gets free agents interested in SLC, the best FAs the Jazz are going to get are Memo and Boozer. Remember what a huge splash that was?Get confident, stupid

I had very little interest in the NBA since Stockton retired, but I think I'll defend Sloan about not being able to win a title. In '97 and '98, Jordan and the Bulls were too much for the Jazz to beat and that's not the fault of Sloan. The years before, he really didn't have the right players to get out of the Western Conference. When he had a team good enough to get to the Finals, the Bulls were just better teams. I don't think Phil Jackson could have won in '97 or '98 with the players on that roster because as I noted previously, the Bulls were the better team each year.Originally posted by SloanHater View PostI'm sure the game is different when you are sitting on the bench making the decisions. However, not playing your best player from Game 3 and leaving your biggest defender on the bench for most of the game are calls even a casual Jazz fan could have made.
Sloan is great at getting players to execute his system. That is why he excels in the regular season. He has no clue how to adjust for the playoffs. That is why his postseason record is below .500.
[Edit] What disappoints me most about Sloan of the past 4 years is the absence of technicals. If Jerry was still alive, he would have been ejected early in the first half of tonight's game.
I think Sloan has done better than any other coach could ever have done in Utah. He's rare in the pro sports world in that he doesn't let the players dictate how the team will be run - it's his way or the highway and that's how it should be.
Also, it's been said before, but it's true - it's tough to get players to come to Utah. Put the Jazz in another city with Sloan as coach and the core players from his teams over the years and I'm guessing the team wins a few titles because they'd have been able to sign free agents to put them over the top. Whether it's deserved or not, there is a stigma attached to the franchise being in Utah."Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill

Since 1980 only 8 teams have one the NBA title. That is very few teams.Originally posted by SloanHater View PostI find it fascinating that Jazz Fans think a championship is so unrealistic that they've become content with winning 45+ games and making the playoffs.
The Jazz CAN win a title, but to blame Jerry for not winning is ridiculous. 24 other teams have also not won a title in the last 30 years.

Please. This is the lame excuse making I was referring to earlier. The NBA has a hard salary cap. You can get a max player by paying max dollars. You may not be able to get older vets to sign for less money, like Boston has lately, but those players haven't necessarily been the difference in winning titles.Originally posted by il Padrino Ute View PostI had very little interest in the NBA since Stockton retired, but I think I'll defend Sloan about not being able to win a title. To win a title you need a Great Player, a Really Good Player, and a Great Coach. San Antonio isn't a bigger or more desirable market than Utah.

I'm not talking about salaries. I'm talking about the practically non-existent nightlife in Salt Lake City and the preconceived notions that many have about Mormons.Originally posted by SloanHater View PostPlease. That may be true for college recruits, but how does that affect anyone offered millions of dollars? Plenty of players have come to Utah, which I'm sure wasn't their preferred destination, because money is more important than nightclubs.

This is absurd. I'd agree most NBA players would choose a big market team over the Jazz if offered the same money. Again, the problem is that the NBA has a HARD CAP. This isn't MLB. There can't be a team like the Yankees.Originally posted by Donuthole View PostMore have stayed away (or left). All Stars like Maggette and Brand were willing to come here and I'm guessing it wasn't for the party scene.

They were willing to come here because there was a very good chance their teams were going to match and keep them in LA. Same with Jason Terry and ATL. Even Memo and Boozer were restricted FAs when they signed, and the only reason their teams didn't match was because Utah significantly overpaid to get them.Originally posted by SloanHater View PostThis is absurd. Yes, in a league with a hard cap there is only so much money to go around. But having to overpay to lure players to live and play in your city puts your team at a disadvantage relative to some of the other teams.Last edited by Donuthole; 05-11-2010, 12:07 AM.Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

So you're telling me the only reason players sign with the Jazz is because they know their team is going to match?! I bet players love staying on losing teams like the Clippers and Hawks just to be in a 'big' market.
You must be too young to recall that everyone was surprised that the cheapskate Sterling was willing to match the Brand/Maggette offers.
I'll take your money. I'm telling you that there is no doubt that Phil will take over when Jerry decides he's lost enough playoff games. Phil has turned down offers to move knowing the Utah job is his. LHM said as much.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostI really doubt Phil is next coach. My money is on Corbin.
