The funny thing about the Fisher saga rearing its ugly head again is that where's the evidence he's being treated differently than any other opposing player?

According to Plaschke, here's the manifestation of the Utah fan base's collective angst, vitriol, bloodlust, and, ultimately, blatant hypocrisy:

"Fisher sucks, Fisher sucks."

Seriously, that's it? Jazz fans also chanted "Kobe sucks," "LA sucks," "Artest sucks," "Melo sucks," "Denver sucks," "K-Mart sucks," etc. Similarly, Denver fans yelled "Utah sucks," "Deron sucks," "Boozer sucks," etc. And if you flip on the television to any given arena during the playoffs, you will probably hear a similar chorus.

When you are an opposing player, you get booed, and people chant that you suck. That's it, end of story. There is no evidence in the "Fisher sucks" chant that the fans held more disdain for him than any given opponent.

But since this series was a total snooze and there's actually something of a back story here, the LA Times is writing about this tired and trite issue for the third straight year. Oh, I know, this year we'll spin it as hypocrisy on behalf of the fan base because Mormons are committed to family values! Look how clever we are! I can see Plaschke beaming with joy when he finally came up with that one.

There is no story here, and Fisher was not treated unlike any other opposing player. Plaschke was bored and everyone got trolled. It's not Utah fans that have refused to let this die -- it's the LA media because watching the same exact series for the third straight year holds no intrigue.

^^^ Seriously, the media is a huge culprit in this lame story. EVERY FREAKING GAME the announcers had to spend 5-10 minutes discussing the classy Fisher and his undying love for his daughter and how great it was that he got to move to the Lakers. It was absolutely nauseating.

Plaschke's article really got the ball rolling then. The Fisher Lied shirts those girls were wearing are getting a lot of run. But I also think it was more than just "Fisher sucks" dude.

They always make it sound like Utah was down by a half dozen, and Fisher showed up and brought them from behind. IIRC, the Jazz were up by 4 when Fisher arrived in the middle of the 3rd, and by the time the 3rd ended, they were only up 1. Thanks, Derek!

When Fisher made the 3-pointer they always show, the Jazz were up by 3 with a minute to go in OT.

I have a very diverse CTR 5 class and I've been segregating them for years. Who wouldn't? It helps keep the natural order of things.

To Jazz fans for their continuing enmity toward Derek Fisher, who asked for his release from Utah three summers ago so he could play in an NBA city that had a hospital with an advanced eye surgery wing for his cancer-stricken daughter. He signed with the Lakers … who knocked Utah out of the playoffs in 2008, '09, and now '10. Jazz fans take this personally -- even booing him during games -- and conveniently forget that Utah was happy to let Fisher go in 2007 (not only was he overpaid as a backup, but it needed the cap relief for Deron Williams' extension) and wasn't worried about the Lakers contending at the time (since they finished 42-40 and seemed headed for a Kobe trade). A few months later, Chris Wallace gift-wrapped Pau Gasol to Los Angeles and everything changed. Not Fisher's fault. I am all for booing Lakers players and fostering random vendettas against them, but not like this.

See, here's what you get when you boo Fisher, Utah fans …

1. Bad karma. Goes without saying.

2. You just look stupid. Like you have no idea what actually happened. Fisher didn't betray you by jumping to a conference rival. The Lakers were floundering at the time.

3. You bristle every time a media member calls you the most (fill in one: bitter/angry/hostile/vicious) fans in the NBA. This illogical Fisher vendetta helps you on this front … how?

My advice as a neutral party: Let the Fisher thing go. It's creepy and ill-conceived.
