I guess what I'm asking is why did the Jazz make him the play by play guy then? Having the play-by-play guy on the owned station makes sense but not when he can't speak to anything. Just a dumb move. As much shit as David Locke receives at least he's an entertaining listen when I'm driving home during a Jazz game. He puts together a lot of pre-taped interviews and plays them during lulls in the action and can speak to just about anything going on. His prep work is ridiculous.

Fortunately, I don't get to hear Boler announce Jazz games too often. Does he still call fairly average buckets "circus shots?"

Yes, unfortunately. Other dumbass phrases abound but I dare not repeat them lest his dimples suck me into a vortex of trite cliches and nonsense.

                I think he's horrid.

Eh. In a market used to flamboyant play-by-play (see thread title) he's more than adequate IMO.

I'm fine with Boler. It is as CJ said. He is good at play by play and that's why he's always had a good football gig with CBS, etc. His commentary and analysis is not good. I didn't care for Boone and don't think Harpring is very good.

I'm not saying he doesn't annoy me. I guess he replaced Circus Shot with Houdini, and I don't care for either. But he's pretty good in comparison to other teams, from what I've seen.

I think he only uses Houdini with Burks, still circus shot with everyone else. Also still calls a bounce pass a skip pass. Boler is a moran.

When Jazz are national TV, I'll usually flip to the national broadcast. But, oftentimes you find that the analyst hasn't watched any Jazz basketball and they really have no insight into the players or the team's struggles etc. Or you could end up with Van Gundy talking about Kobe and the Lakers for 30 minutes straight when the Jazz are playing Denver.

I don't blame the guy for getting bored with the Jazz game. But I don't want to hear him talking about Kobe for 30 minutes with the game in the background.

                                At least Exum is consistent.
