Yeah this is the problem. It's been mentioned a bunch, but to date we haven't seen anything, so it's nothing for teams to take into account. And while he's going to get his opportunity to get shots up from 3 this year, I don't suspect his success rate is going be all that great. Plus, even his eFG% on jumpshots in previous years has not been very good and does not suggest a shooter. Of course he's young, he's going to improve, and he always appears to have good touch, but right now there's not much to suggest he'll be a respectable shooter if they just cut him loose. The free throw % has always been a positive indicator, but that's about it.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

For all the questionable free agency moves the Jazz made this year, just one of em couldn't have been a play for Jimmer?

Is This Real, or Is This Just Summer League? (tie) Rudy Gobert, Jazz, and Tony Snell, Bulls
Rudy Gobert looked like an overwhelmed, understrength, fringe stiff in his first season in the NBA. Tony Snell carved out a rookie season rep as a solid defender who couldn’t shoot and wouldn’t give Joakim Noah a celebratory chest-bump.
Both guys have been revelations in summer league.
Gobert averaged 11.8 points on 73 percent shooting, 9.8 rebounds, and a bona fide rim-protecting 2.5 blocks a game. The Thomas & Mack Center was lousy with Utah fans who made the six-hour drive south from Salt Lake City, chanting “Rudy, Rudy” during the Jazz’s 16-point, quasi-meaningless blowout of the Bucks, in which Gobert blocked five shots — including a highlight rejection of star rookie Jabari Parker — and scored 13 points and nine rebounds.http://grantland.com/the-triangle/yo...league-awards/You Can Feel Good, Good, Good About Hood (Every Other Game): Rodney Hood, Jazz
Rodney Hood’s summer was as streaky as a sleep-away camp kid’s drawers.
Game 1: 3-of-13 from the floor, 1-of-10 from 3, nine points
Game 2: 11-of-16 from the floor, 7-of-10 from 3, 29 points
Game 3: 1-of-9 from the floor, 0-of-2 from 3, three points
Game 4: 7-of-11 from the floor, 1-of-3 from 3, 19 points
Game 5: 2-of-8 from the floor, 1-of-3 from 3, seven pointsSo Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Here's the quote BGR referenced above.Who will you be counting on to be knock-down shooters next year?
We’ll find that out. I think Enes [Kanter] certainly, and, in particular spots, the four spots, we will try to increase his range at least to corner threes, but there’s the high-quadrant three that we’ll find out if that’s within his capabilities. And in a short time frame, we’ll let practice and scrimmages dictate whether Quin and the coaches will allow that. But Qu–Enes has already showed the ability to have great touch in many areas, most areas on the court, but, and certainly from long two in the high quadrant, we’ll set some things up for him.
Derrick [Favors] has really showed and improved proficiency from the high-low area in the short corners. When we put him on the roll last year, he, his finishing was excellent, and I think he winded up shooting 53 percent from the field.
Trey [Burke] really has to take a step forward with his open shooting. I think, to be fair to Trey, rookie year, broken finger, he, I think his natural touch is much, at a much higher level than what he showed, especially with his open shooting. Clearly, his mid-paint finishing, we’re working on some things, and he’s shown some progression, but that’s something that we wanna move forward.
Certainly Gordon [Hayward]‘s open shooting, we have to get back to that, in past standards. Year before last, I think he shot 41 percent, and there’s no reason why, given good balance that Gordon can’t shoot it.
Rodney Hood can shoot the ball, but look, he’s a rookie.
Steve Novak, I think, will provide a big shooting quotient. It’s nice to have one guy on the floor that all the guys are looking towards, the “Hey, let’s get him a shot,” kinda the Kyle Korver effect, if you will. To, it, what it does is, is not only does the ball go in when great shooters shoot it, but there’s a little bit of a psychological component, I think, that goes along with greater shooters and teams, that everybody else is able to take the collective deep breath with a great shooter on the floor, even if it’s a role player like Steve. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Exactly. 2 of those 3 will start and play most of the minutes. Hood will get minutes and there is nobody else. So bringing on a guy like Garcia (I'm not advocating for him) is not going to impede the development of those 3. They will get the minutes. That is not the case now at the 4 and 5. That's all I was saying. We now have 6 guys at the 4-5, 3 of which we'd like to see play a lot (Favors, Kanter, Gobert). Maybe they will figure out how to play Novak at the 3. His D at the 3 may be no worse than his D at the 4--depending on who he is guarding. If Gordon can't turn into a consistent shooter, his contract will not be bad, it will be a disaster. But, as I mentioned before, it is going to continue to be difficult for Gordon to be consistent in the role as #1 scorer, which he will probably have to be again this year. Favors is not going to be that guy.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostHayward, Hood and Burks?
Anyway, I'm standing by my prediction that Snyder will find minutes for Gobert. I think he will see that as more important than winning a few extra games, if any.

I agree with this. He's going to get Gobert 15-20 minutes per.Originally posted by Jacob View PostAnyway, I'm standing by my prediction that Snyder will find minutes for Gobert. I think he will see that as more important than winning a few extra games, if any.
Also, Burks is going to shoot 40% 3pt this season so Novak won't need much time.I'm like LeBron James.

That would be a 5% increase over his career numbers so I doubt it, even in a more wide open system. If anything I see his paltry assist numbers increasing as his drive and kick skills will be brought to bear.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostI agree with this. I'm not saying Snyder won't find minutes for Go Bear -- I think he'll try. I just think they'll be hard to come by, and as I said above, I'm not going to be surprised when he plays less than Novak. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Snyder's system is going to make every guy a way better version of what they were. Alex is likely go for 45% from 3 this year.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostThat would be a 5% increase over his career numbers so I doubt it, even in a more wide open system. That would be nice. We'll see, but I just think his shot is too flat (whatever that means, right?). I think the position that takes a statistical hit (that is to say PPG) is the 5, which I won't mind so much if the outside shooting is good.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostSnyder's system is going to make every guy a way better version of what they were. Of course Go Bear will play fewer minutes than Novak. I don't think Go Bear is more than a 15 minute a night player right now. I think he'll struggle with fouls. I think he'll wear down as the season progresses. I can't think of another example of a player his size and as active/athletic as Go Bear who has been able to sustain that for big minutes over a long period of time. I also think Novak brings an elite skill to the table to the point that I think he'll likely play 15 to 20 minutes a night, though he's never played more than 20 minutes a night even in a wide open offense. With that, there are still 96 minutes a night to be spread out among the bigs, and I think Favors is locked for 33 or so of those, and outside of that, it's open. Kanter between 24 and 30 (so let's say 28), Go Bear 15, that still leaves 20 minutes a night for Booker/Novak/Evans. I guess I'm not worried about minutes among the bigs, since there isn't much choice but to play Favors and Kanter big minutes, and Go Bear I'm not planning on being a guy this year capable of big minutes over an 82 game season.Originally posted by MarkGrace View Post2 of the 3 young bigs will start and play most of the minutes as well. I think the 33 for Favors sounds about right. Someone said 35 above, but I think that's unlikely. I'm also guessing we see about 30 out of Kanter. I'd guess about 18 for Novak. If it plays out that way, that gives you 15 minutes for the rest of the guys. I have no idea why we signed Booker at all, let alone for what we gave him.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostOf course Go Bear will play fewer minutes than Novak. Booker is the only guy that makes me scratch my head at all. Although it sounds like the details of the deal came out yesterday and the second year is only partially guaranteed at $250k. So if he isn't a rotation guy or an important part of the team, it's easy enough to cut ties without much of a penalty. This year the salary doesn't hurt us at all, and if that's what it cost us to get a look at a player that intrigued us, I guess it doesn't bother me as much. The money is going to be spend one way or another, either among the players on our current roster or elsewhere, so I guess so be it. But yes, the minutes for Booker are the one piece that doesn't add up to me.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostI think the 33 for Favors sounds about right.
