I'm never on the right side of the angst and I'm planning 3-4 years in the future so I can be.Wasted pick, he isn't good. Straw man, lol Jacob.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostLooks like he hasn't played since the 1st game. I learned as much about Exum as I could prior to the draft and wasn't impressed. He hasn't done anything in three games to change my mind. He uses his size to see over people, has good vision and is a solid passer. His supposed speed and vaunted first step - where are they? He's not getting by anybody. He's basically been a non-factor since the first game.
Young players with potential to be great generally have moments of brilliance combined with WTF type plays. We're not seeing the moments of brilliance. No explosion. Can't seem to even get shots off. Doesn't get to the basket. Basically he looks like the guy who was just good (not great) against high school competition and is now playing against grown men and it stands to reason he is non-existent.Get confident, stupid

What comment did I make like it's my first time watching summer league? You act like I'm coming to conclusions or predicting his future based on three summer league games. It that's what you think, your reading comprehension needs a lot of work.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostThe point wasn't hidden! Not exactly a mystery. The right out of school kids always die out in this setting. They've been doing camp, two-a-days, and then start playing games every single day. They tire out and start to look super sluggish and that's all that's happened. Same thing happened to Burke last year. Obviously Burke is not a burner, but he looked crazy slow by mid-end of week. His supposed speed and vaunted first step - where are they? He's not getting by anybody. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Nobody hyperventilates about summer league every year more than SMR. We're used to this around here!Originally posted by Surfah View PostAlso it's summer league. There are always summer league stars that are busts and dogs that turn into stars. You can't put much stock in it.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I think Exum's raw talent will overcome. As has been mentioned he's not used to the grind yet. Besides running for 3 months at altitude, I say he sits down and watches Westbrook at UCLA and Westbrook in 2014."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault
"Once I seen the trades go down and the other guys signed elsewhere," he said, "I knew it was my time now." - Derrick Favors

Again, you act like I'm coming to the conclusion that he doesn't have good speed or a good first step. All I said is that we're not seeing it right now. We're not. Will it come eventually? Of course that's a possibility.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostThis one:

Ultimately you're putting words in my mouth based on some things I may have said in the past.
Hyperventilating? lol.I'm like LeBron James.

Here's something I noticed about Exum which may or may not matter: he has an unathletic gait. His is posture is such that he always seems like he's a bit bent at the waist and is carrying his weight out in front of his toes. Also--laugh if you want--he has pretty wide hips relative to the rest of his frame. He has a similar gait and hips to Shawn Bradley, now that I think about it, though on a less exaggerated scale. Maybe he'll grow into his frame, but comparisons to the athleticism of Kobe or T-Mac are just dumb. Those guys were silky smooth with little to no wasted motion. Exum seems herky jerky with a lot of wasted motion in comparison to those guys.
Ultimately I just hope it doesn't result in injuries. Often it seems like the guys with the unconventional gait or posture end up being injury prone.Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss
There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

I don't think anyone would disagree that we didn't see it last night. But I also don't think anyone who has watched these first year kids year after year in the summer would be wondering where they were. His supposed speed and vaunted first step - where are they? I don't think he has Kobe or T-Mac level athleticism overall. He doesn't leap like those guys. But I do think his speed for his height is extremely impressive and just about as good as you'll see.Originally posted by Donuthole View PostHere's something I noticed about Exum which may or may not matter: he has an unathletic gait. I also definitely see what you mean about the gait, but with the ball and moving at full speed his movements look incredibly fluid to me.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

That's one of Simmonds' big things isn't it, just watching how guys walk? He talked about it a lot with Odom, comparing how he moved to KG and Shaq.Originally posted by Donuthole View PostHere's something I noticed about Exum which may or may not matter: he has an unathletic gait. Really? What was the comparison with Odom and KG/Shaq? Odom looks much more fluid than a guy like KG to me (who's pretty herky-jerky in his movements), but obviously KG is a much better player.Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View PostThat's one of Simmonds' big things isn't it, just watching how guys walk?
