I can' t imagine Spence Checketts has any real sources inside the Jazz organization.

It wouldn't surprise me if he was trolling with the Boylen comments and the national media ran with it. Same with Stockton.

      More from Stein:

Snyder worked w/Jazz GM Dennis Lindsey in San Antonio and, interestingly, spent a season w/CSKA Moscow studying Lindsey pal Ettore Messina

You think it's the most important? Is this the point where we do examples of good coaches with poor temperament (of which there are plenty) and poor coaches with good temperament (of which there are plenty). I hope not. I need to get back to work.
I think you and I are using different understanding of what constitutes a good coaching temperament. Corbin doesn't have one, but Sloan does. So does Pops, moreso than anyone. I think you may have reversed those. I'm not talking about who is a nice guy or pleasant to be around. But good assistants will only rarely made good head coaches. The job descriptions and personality requirements are not similar.

            Neither am I.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

              4). Other scenario

Assume the draft plays out like Ford suggested yesterday and Embiid is BPA available at 4 (assume also this is where the Jazz land). Which of the above scenarios do you go for? Ford's suggestion was #1, which makes some sense, but probably has some risk as there's a possibility Kanter is still the most offensively talented guy in the group. Is there a scenario that makes more sense?
It's such a tough decision, which is why everything will work out so much easier if the best player available is a guard or wing. I suppose if we drafted Embid, we should trade whichever of the other 3 that would bring us the most in return. Neither Kanter nor Favors are real centerpieces, so it probably doesn't matter. What we really need is more starting talent, so trade the one that brings back the best guard/wing talent.

If you are drafting Embid, you better think he has great offensive potential. I've seen some great flashes in that regard, so i'd be fine with a starting combo of Embid/Favors. It would probably be an easier decision if one of those guys looked like a superior passer, but they don't.

The same agent that represent Lindsey represents Boylen and Messina. I wonder how the media found out about the Jazz top candidates?

Seems like a good indication that the media is taking the shortcut and we really have no idea.

I know Lindsey says Utah isn't skipping steps. But I'm trying to figure out if there is a player out there that would drastically alter the team's future plans that could be had for some combo of the #4 pick and one of the young players that is under contract.

                      - You're obviously not getting most superstars (from LeBron to Anthony Davis or even John Wall-type on young team who is building well now)

                      - Not gonna give up that much value for someone like Kevin Love who is only under team control for 1 year

                      - To make a trade for a really good player, might also involve Utah using cap space taking back bad contract...so then you're giving up high pick, solid young player, and cap room

Boston traded Wally World, Delonte West, and the #5 pick (Jeff Green) for aging star Ray Allen. Boston traded Al Jefferson, Theo Ratliff's expiring deal, and a bunch of other young throw-ins for KG.

                      - What if Denver offered Ty Lawson and the #11 pick for Trey Burke and the #4/#23? Besides giving up shot at Randle or Exum or Gordon, you bring on $10 M contract. But if you keep Hayward, how good is a starting 5 of Favors/Kanter/Hayward/Burks/Lawson, and you still get the 11th pick (McDermott? Hood? Gary Harris?)

                      - What is Brook Lopez worth coming off injury and with that contract? Can Favors play PF next to him?

                      - James Harden was traded for Jeremy Lamb, Kevin Martin, and two first round picks (Steven Adams at pick 12 was one). OKC could make that deal because they still had 2.5 stars, and Martin could contribute on winning team. I don't think the Jazz could make a trade that would be enticing for Westbrook unless Hayward could be involved, or maybe Favors. Hayward in S&T + rights to 4th pick + taking back Perkin's 1 yr/$9 M deal for Westbrook? If you could get Westbrook and keep 3 of the current 5 young guys, is it worth what you'd give up for where the team is at this point?

This one makes me sick. Denver jumped Utah to nab Lawson and leave Utah drafting Eric Maynor.

Lots of chatter about the Jazz possibly hiring Ettore Messina as head coach. Thoughts?
                          Chad Ford (1:57 PM)

Would be a great get. I've been a big fan of coach Messina's. I know Dennis Lindsay and Justin Zanik both have connections. An interesting choice but a good one I think.

Who are all the euro coaches that have been failures in the NBA? I can't think of any, and I'm certainly not counting D'Antoni as a failure.
