You are right. Unless you start your coaching career under someone, I doubt they have any impact on your coaching philosophy.Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View PostThat's a weird looking tree, given the grafted branches that aren't really part of it.
Carlesimo was head coach at Seton Hall for 12 years and had two head coaching jobs in the NBA before spending several years in SA as an assistant.
Doc Rivers finished his career as a player in SA, but his first coaching job was as the had guy for Orlando.
Brown would be part of Carlisle's "tree" as much as Pop's, maybe more so since his last years as an asst were under Carlisle before getting the Cleveland head job.
Del Negro never coached with Pop.
Who knows what will come of Vaughn, Budenholzer, and Brown, but right now the results of trying to find the next coaching star by plucking a guy from Pop's staff are surprisingly limited.*Banned*

It's fine to have different definitions of coaching tree. But I think by the most regular of definitions, there is no way PJ, Rivers, and Del Negro would be considered part of Pop's tree.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostYou are right. I wonder what Bill Fitch's tree would look like if we counted each player that had ever played for him.

1). Favors/Embiid/Go Bear, trade Kanter
2). Kanter/Embiid/Go Bear, trade Favors
3). Favors/Kanter/Embiid, forget about Go Bear
4). Other scenario
Assume the draft plays out like Ford suggested yesterday and Embiid is BPA available at 4 (assume also this is where the Jazz land). Which of the above scenarios do you go for? Ford's suggestion was #1, which makes some sense, but probably has some risk as there's a possibility Kanter is still the most offensively talented guy in the group. Is there a scenario that makes more sense? So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Ultimately, I think it depends on the value you could get for either Kanter or Favors. I think Kanter fits better with Embiid, so if I had to choose one to go, I'd keep Kanter. I'm not sure either Kanter or Favors could fetch much in a trade, so I say scenario 3, but that doesn't necessarily mean you give up on Go Bear. I really like GB's potential as a rebounder and rim protector, so if I have to, I keep him around as a 4th guy.Originally posted by MarkGrace View Post1). Favors/Embiid/Go Bear, trade Kanter

I don't really mean give up on him, but how many minutes does the 4th big on a bench get? Not enough that you're really committed to him. I think 3) is interesting simply because those would be the three most talented, and you want to give yourself a shot at retaining the guys you think would be the best in the group. You'd hate to flip Favors or Kanter, only to see the guy you traded go on to be better than the guy you kept. On the flip side, if you move one perhaps you can obtain another helpful piece, and that doesn't happen if you keep all three. Favors/Embiid/Go Bear could turn into an absolute defensive wrecking crew though. Of course I'm projecting a bit on Favors, because his defensive numbers this year were terrible. Actually, I guess I'm projecting on all of them, but obviously the raw skill is there defensively.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostUltimately, I think it depends on the value you could get for either Kanter or Favors. I agree that the group of Favors/Embiid/Gobert has incredible potential defensively, but I'm just not sure that's necessary. I'd rather have one big you can go to in the post on offense and let the other two take care of things defensively.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostI don't really mean give up on him, but how many minutes does the 4th big on a bench get? FWIW, I'm extremely high on Go Bear. I think he has great hands, a nose for the ball and plays the game with a toughness and attitude you want from a big man. Even if you go with scenario 3 and have GB as the 4th option, I think he still figures into your plans in the sense that he can fill in if anybody gets hurt or even just to hang around until maybe you do find the right trade at which time he can play a significant role.I'm like LeBron James.

Tough choice but if thought Embiid was going to be a better I'd choose option#2. I want to see if the new coach allows Kanter to spread the floor at the 4."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

He must be referring to Nada, because I can't imagine John has any desire to be a HC in the NBA. That would be shocking.Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View PostThe names keep rolling out:
