You probably didn't need to read the article he's citing to know that he's being grossly irresponsible hyping this up. But I did!

The study he's hyping consisted of an unblinded single arm study of patients who tested positive for COV-19 by nasopharyngeal swab. 'Controls' were those who refused treatment. The end point was not clinical outcome; it was to see if treated patients were able to clear viral DNA from repeat swabs faster than the controls. They started with, ahem, about 30 treated patients. The majority of these were either asymptomatic or had relatively mild symptoms. They lost 6 when half of them got worse and went to the ICU and the other half who didn't complete the full 6 day course for other reasons.

Here's the graph you may have seen:

So yeah, it seems in this small study the combination therapy was effective in reducing viral 'load' in the nasopharynx. This could have potential utility in decreasing spread in patients who are carrying the virus. And it may show efficacy in preventing mild infections from getting worse. Both of those are still assumptions that need to be viewed with skepticism, that will hopefully pan out with larger studies. But as to the larger question that most people are pinning hopes on, an effective treatment to cure patients, this study proves nothing.

Our idiot president doesn't understand any of this. I actually don't blame him or other governmental officials who don't understand the science, yet are grasping at straws looking for any hope. But they need to trust officials who know better. With Trump's press briefing yesterday implying his feeling should be trusted more than Dr. Fauci's opinion and today's tweet, he is making it harder for the population to trust the science. And now everyone in the medical community will have to spend time and energy talking patients down from a miracle cure.
Hey, can you read all of these and give us your expert opinion as well?...

A renowned research professor in France has reported successful results from a new treatment for Covid-19, with early tests suggesting it can stop the virus from being contagious in just six days.

Korean physicians treating the patients infected with the new coronavirus (COVID-19) have established the treatment guidelines for the unpreceded coronavirus. The key guidelines are as following; healthy patients with no existing disease do not need an administration of an antiviral drug, and, once physicians decide on the use of antiviral treatment, they should do so as quickly as possible.

The last paragraph of the article is telling:

"Reuters could not find evidence of major media outlets or Democrats calling the "Proclamation on Suspension of Entry as Immigrants and Nonimmigrants of Persons who Pose a Risk of Transmitting 2019 Novel Coronavirus" racist, xenophobic or bigoted. This line of criticism has been widely used to condemn the travel ban (Executive Order 13769) and its later iterations ( here ), but this travel ban never included China, supersedes the coronavirus outbreak, and its latest iteration issued in January 2020 was not part of Trump’s coronavirus response."

If you’re being serious, then some in vitro and small clinical trials give reason to hope that existing medication may help treat coronavirus infections. That is my expert B.S. in microbiology from BYU and non-clinical MD opinion!

If your google search was meant to be snarky, then don’t listen to me. Just watch Dr. Fauci try to diplomatically explain how none of these treatments are nowhere close to be ready for general use against the virus. It’s grossly irresponsible for the president to suggest these are miracle drugs.

If you don’t trust a doc who hasn’t treated patients in 15 years, then listen to Cardiac. He’s rightfully concerned that treating a ton of sick patients, many of whom likely have heart issues, with a drug with known cardiac toxicity, is going to lead to a not insignificant amount of morbidity.

I thought the US was in bad shape for ventilators.. In the UK the NHS (the model to the world for socialized medicine) only has 8,175 ventilators (includes 691 from private hospitals and some from the ministry of defense). That's one ventilator for about every 8,000 people. In the USA we have about 170,000 ventilators or one ventilator for every 2,000 people.

But we can engineer the sh*t out of this problem...

For example, maybe using CPAP machines:

In the interest of precision: Donald Trump's "record of hysteria, xenophobia, and fear-mongering" is well chronicled; it is his campaign platform. We are in the midst of a crisis with the coronavirus. We need to lead the way with science — not Donald Trump’s record of hysteria, xenophobia, and fear-mongering.
Clearly Biden was saying that Drumpf was created the restrictions on China, etc travel because he believed that Drumpf is a racist and a fear-monger. Not because Drumpf was trying to slow the spread of the virus.
