I like an occasional cruise, but why bail out an industry whose services are so non-essential? Especially cruise lines that eliminate or avoid U.S. taxes by flying foreign flags while raking in U.S. dollars?

Cruise industry also has a significant negative environmental impact. Waste disposal etc.

The ariline industry is gonna really need that help and is more essential to the economy.

Well, that is an approach. Very risky. Don't know how you effectively build a wall around your vulnerable population. And even a certain number of young people suffer serious consequences as a result of the infection.

But the UK is an island, so why not cut them off from the rest of the world and let them try it? What could go wrong?

Governments make strategic decisions weighing mortality risks with different approaches all the time. Why does the flu, with hundreds of millions who get sick and tens of thousands of deaths, get largely ignored? And there's a bright line that separates risk here. How much more at risk will the vulnerable be put if we wreck the economy and we don't? Are all those teens who don't have to go to school sticking to solitary confinement? What are the school closures changing? The vulnerable have to take the same precautions either way.

Why not ban alcohol because it destroys unborn children? Why let people own cars?

If we destroy the economy there may be more misery and death than Covid-19 will cause. Meanwhile, politicians care mainly about not being blamed in the short term for even a single death.

As usual, the British are showing a lot of brass and independence. Johnson has brought that back to them. The Miracle at Dunkirk. Eff you, France. You blew it. We're going to beat Hitler our own way.

I don't own a cruise line either. We are all touched by the economy. Do you really think restaurants and cruise lines aren't going to suffer under a "herd immunity" strategy? Which approach will damage the economy more? You have no idea.

There is light at the end of the tunnel here in Korea and in China.

Let UK do its thing. Just seal the island off so the rest of us can do our thing.
