I think we need a new poll. I'm still not going to panic - though I am practicing social distancing. So my answer to this particular poll hasn't changed.

However, the response of the hoarding masses and their reactions to the situation is starting to push me into the "take this seriously" range.

I like this article because it confirms my bias and right now I am biased to find things that are optimistic. That being said, there were some things in here that the author seemed to fudge. For starters, his data and rationale for "we should keep kids in school" seemed extremely shaky (my son said this part of the article is pure BS). Also, he seemed to skip over the 20% severe cases stat like it is no big deal. In general, he seemed to cherry-pick all of the analyses that tended to minimize the risk.

Nevertheless, really interesting article. And dang it, I hope he is right.

Yes, interesting, and I agree with his noting Korea as a model for defeating COVID-19.

Mapped against other countries, our fatality rate and case-mix are following a similar pattern to South Korea which is a good sign, a supposed model of how to manage COVID-19.

FYI, Korean schools have been out since the beginning of the crisis. Also, just today Korean authorities issued new suggestions/directives suspending religious activities, entertainment facilities, and indoor sports facilities. They are also asking people to postpone or cancel meetings, events, travel, etc., and refrain from going outside unless purchasing daily necessities, visiting hospitals, or commuting to or from work.

Since this analysis is so dependent upon data, it quickly become obsolete once it is published. And why no input from epidemiologists?

I fully agree with this.

We should be focused on resolving COVID-19 with continued testing, measuring, and be vigilant about protecting those with underlying conditions and the elderly from exposure.

We still have no idea what this looks like in the U.S. That is still 1-2 weeks away.
