I was being sarcastic. It was WHO believing chinese government assurances that there was no human to human transmission that allowed this to go global. I have no reason to believe them now when they say asymptomatic transmission is rare.

In contrast, other countries are only testing patients with serious symptoms, and even then it’s hard to get a test.

Possibly relevant: I know someone who was experiencing severe symptoms, called instacare, was told not to come in until they have fever of 103, called in next day because breathing was very bad, they said come in, went in and was denied a corona test because they were only testing the very most severe symptoms. This person suspected they might have corona because it was the worst chest congestion and throat/headache they'd ever experienced. This anecdote would suggest the denominator on the death rate calculation is severely understated. But it's one anecdote.

my sister in law in Michigan (~33 years old) similar circumstance. went to the ER and they wouldnt test her for covid-19 even though they said she most likely has it.

I think we might've all had it back in February. I was sick as a damned dog, so was my youngest. My wife was down for three days, my other two kids for 2 days. Everyone was weak. The blonde and I both lost our sense of smell, had fevers of 102.9 across several days, tested negative for the flu, and developed laryngitis, bronchitis, and had to get inhalers to breathe. While that could've been a common cold, I don't recall having been this sick since I had pneumonia back in 2000 (the most sick I've ever been). I started losing my voice on a Thursday, felt like shit Friday afternoon, got dang sick Saturday and stayed with a fever for four more days, taught on Thursday, got a fever that night again, missed work on Friday, and finally didn't run a fever for 24 hours so I could go back to work on Monday. My voice sounded like Batman losing his voice. I could hit all the notes in "Folsom Prison Blues" including "hang my head and crrryyy."

I'd love antibody testing because I'm in a house with people who are starting to get pissy with each other, and we've got no end in sight.

I think your last paragraph applies to 50% of the world's population right now. I wouldnt be shocked if we had it. Mild fluish symptoms cycled through the whole family in late February. I went to NYC five times in Dec-Feb so I suppose I could have easily brought it back with me.

Edit: btw I have never been happier that we moved than right now. I cant imagine living there through this. We left a lot of good friends there and try to keep in touch as much as possible and see if they need anything. They are all going insane.

We simply still don't have enough testing kits to test as liberally as we need to. Hence, they are rationing for the more serious cases, which obviously will lead to more serious consequences.

I flew to Utah on December 30 to drop my third spawn off at BYU. I stayed five days. The last day in Utah I came down with what I thought was the flu. Looking back, I had the same symptoms attributed to coronavirus. My flight home was pure misery. I had a splitting headache, couldn't breath and was achey with a high fever. Advil was completely ineffective, and Tylenol makes me nauseous, so I use it in moderation. When I got home, I was out two weeks, because I was just too weak to do anything but lie in bed.

Edit: the cough I developed has lingered. Maybe my slight cough now is due to allergies, but it will be interesting to better understand all this when some normalcy returns:
