Stop trying to be funny. You're no Larry David.

I used to want to be an epidemiologist. I even read the Hot Zone and 3/4th of the Coming Plague (long slog, that one)!

Can I still comment on this thread?
"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

We were talking about Iceland. Apparently you know more than what the epidemiologists have to say about Iceland.
I'm sure I know as much or even more about it than this guy did a week ago.

            Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

nobody was trying to be funny. if you don’t understand why iceland does not provide a helpful example for whatever point it is you’re trying to make here (that’s not “this is a hard problem that people should think about”), you should probably avoid questioning others’ qualifications.

I was quoting experts. Do you read?

I remember you said this wouldn't hurt the economy because it would only affect hot dog vendors.

yes, i read the week old bloomberg summary of a summary of old data of a genetically and culturally homogeneous island nation. by the way, that expert article concludes that transmission by asymptomatic carriers would be extremely alarming.

                            That's always been true.

                            • Trying to make sense of the data.

                              https://www.thelancet.com/journals/l...243-7/fulltext

From an extensive analysis of data from different regions of the world, our best estimate at the current time for the case fatality ratio of COVID-19 in China is 1·38% (95% CrI 1·23–1·53). Although this value remains lower than estimates for other coronaviruses, including SARS24 and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), 25 it is substantially higher than estimates from the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic.26, 27
                              Still need better data.

                              • Holy crap! So many of you have been sick this year. Let me ask if you typically get sick sometime over the winter. Seems like I get sick every 2-3 years sometime in the winter. I wouldn't be surprised to learn there's another virus that mimics the symptoms of this coronavirus. Perhaps a particular flu strain?
