Trump is such a unique politician. I think it was someone here who said he makes both his supporters and critics demonstrate their worst selves. The guy really is an evil genius and makes the Democrats dumber each day. He makes everyone dumber each day but it is breathtaking how he has dismantled the "we are the less crazy" branding of the Democrats.

There is crazy, and then there is the perception of crazy. Unfortunately, the GOP/Trump/Fox news trifecta has done masterful work branding any left-wing act as both mainstream democrat and crazy, which half of the country now believes.

Right now, the democrats can't find their footing to fight against the real crazy that is happening every day. And not just Trump v.1 level crazy; undermining civil society and the constitution level crazy:

"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

This LA riot is the perfect example. There is no reason for Trump to order in the National Guard. Yet while rioters do rioting things Newsome's public appearance seems more pre-occupied with Trump than he is the riot. Why not say: "The NG is unnecessarily here, but lets work together to get this protest civil and peaceful and then the NG will stay out of our way and not be an issue. Our focus will be on quelling this riot, bringing those breaking laws and perpetrating violence to justice and blah blah blah." But they just fall for the bait and tear off into making Trump their enemy. It is dumb.

I mean one guy is saying this, pretty much what you want him to say:

And another one is saying this:

I agree with you that Trump brings out the crazy on both sides. But at least with elected officials, one side is clearly working within accepted norms.

While the case is pending and the asylum claims have yet to be determined, they are allowed to remain. So, they dismiss the case. With the dismissal, the defensive asylum claim is also gone. Before the migrant can file for affirmative asylum, they kidnap and rendition them under the expedited removal process (previously only done within 14 days of entry, but Trump 2.0 wants it done within two years).

More and more of these protests will crop up and Trump will try harder and harder to maintain "law and order" through force, which will only increase the resistance.

This is the right approach and I don't understand why smart and reasonable leaders can't do this (I guess the answer is found in the absence of at least one of the two qualifying adjectives)..

In other Trump news, narcissism continues to take him where no man has ever gone before. Now he's proposing to give $1,000 to every newborn, to be placed in an investment account. Not a terrible idea, but the administration is calling these "Trump Accounts," despite the money coming from us, not Trump.

                          • Here is the thing that we were talking about as a family over dinner last night....

The previous administration let in an estimated 4 million illegal immigrants cross the borders and enter the country in the last 4 years. How do you solve that issue? How does a country protect itself when that many non-citizens move in?

I'm just not sure how to handle it. I am not in the "deport anyone that doesn't look like they belong here" camp. I'm also not in the "well they are already here, so we need to figure something out camp." One option is too punitive, the other option just encourages more people to attempt to migrate.

I'm at a loss. But I don't like what I see in LA on the TV. I don't like what I see from Police, from the National Guard, from the protesters (peaceful and non-peaceful), and I don't like what I see from President Trump, Governor Newsome, or any of the other politicians.

Stop being so thoughtful about this. The only choices are full throated support of the current administration's immigration policies or "anything goes" resistance. So either pick up a rifle and take to the streets or publicly salute our dear leader, please!
