Trump Administration to Begin Refunding $166 Billion in Tariffs

The government will debut a system to repay importers two months after the Supreme Court struck down tariffs at the heart of the president’s trade policy.

The government estimates that it amassed more than $166 billion in revenue from those taxes on imports. That outstanding balance is expected to accrue roughly an additional $650 million in interest each month, or about $22 million per day, according to Scott Lincicome, the vice president for general economics at the libertarian-leaning Cato Institute.

Among the many obstacles, the Trump administration said it had to stand up an entirely new system that could process refunds in bulk and disentangle illegal tariffs from legal ones on those same goods. At first, the government didn’t even have a way to deposit money directly into the bank accounts of most importers, customs officials said.

Here is my question....THE TARRIF'S WERE PAID FOR BY THE CUSTOMER IN THE END. HOW ARE WE GETTING OUR REFUND?

This is a win/win for the businesses, and the consumer gets fucked in the end again.

It's barbaric. Not only are we keeping them confined. Not only are we sending them to a third country with which they have which they have no familiarity with, we are sending to an unstable place where they will harmed and abused. The DR of Congo is one of the worst places of earth.

It's cruelty man. The are from a different continent and culture and it's a wildly unstable place. We've reached agreements with stellar and stable societies like Libya and South Sudan. They will be tortured and never heard from. We've sent people from Central America to North Africa.

It's inhumane. And I'd like to see another reason if someone disagrees.

It helps to look at the embarrassing joke an administration through the lens of the Great Replacement Theory. It's why they are shutting down legal immigration as well. These guys are worried that democrats, with the evil Jews at the top, want to bribe illegal immigrated boatload of public benefits to come to the US, and turn them into democratic voters.

It's racist. As we already know people have been deported unjustly. They want word to spread of how barbaric it is that people stop emigrating here. Guys like Posebiac Vance, and Miller look up to people like Franco and Pinochet.

In my opinion, cruelty, not logistics. They have similar agreements with India I think and that would make more sense. What would make even more sense would be not to deport them.

I think it's because a handful of countries like Congo accepted US money to detain refugees.
