The GOP does not learn its lesson. Trumpism cleared the deck. We have 2 Democratic senators and are poised to get a (D) governor, Sec of State, and Atty General. But this is what has to happen. Republicans would rather embrace trump than win an election. Fine by me- their unrelenting cruelty and xenophobia is most unwelcome here where we are 30% latino.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

Have you been following the shifting latino demographics in Texas? Strong shift to the republican party. NYT Daily podcast did a really interesting feature on that recently.Originally posted by Commando View Post

Maricopa County is the largest traditional GOP stronghold in the country and that's coming to an end bc of trump who is the anti-McCain . Most of the border counties in AZ are blue, unsurprisingly.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

And this is quite unsurprising. Look at the Cuban population in Florida, which also is strongly republican. The ugly truth for many immigrants is that once they attain safety and legal status they want to slam the door shut behind them. You ought to hear the way Cubans talk about Mexicans. You've never experienced bigotry quite like it.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but today is my last day of clicking on Hot Air, since it's Allahpundit's last day there.
I got introduced to Allahpundit by a hemepath fellow who was an atheist but conservative who rah rah'd the Iraqi war. Also a Canadian, so really an enigma. I was a supporter at that time also, so we hunkered down in Boston together while everyone else was cursing George W. Anyways, during our lunch we'd scarf down anything Allahpundit, Glenn Reynolds, or Drudge had to say that day. But Allahpundit was my favorite. Just a great writer.
Fast forward a few years and I had stopped reading Instapundit and Drudge Report all together, but would still check daily at Hot Air. His and my politics were diverging, but I still loved how he wrote. And the last few years he has been an increasingly lonely sane voice on the right. I don't read anyone else on Hot Air, but it seemed like he was the only one there to have both barrels pointed at Trump. As I drifted even more leftward I would glaze over his pieces that were still solidly conservative, but I wouldn't miss an anti-Trump screed. Hell hath no fury...
Anyways he said today he'd written something like 35,000 posts since he joined in 2006. I probably read the vast majority of those. So even though it's necessary for me to close that chapter of my daily internet habits, I'm a little sad that it's going away. Even sad enough for me to consider subscribing to the Dispatch and learning his true identity!
His last post was pretty good. An excerpt:
Partisan media serves two masters, the truth and the cause. When they align, all is well. When they conflict, you choose. If you prioritize the truth, you’re a traitor; if you prioritize the cause, you’re a propagandist. One recent example of the latter is the left mocking Republicans who accepted PPP loans during the pandemic for opposing Biden’s student debt bailout. The differences between those two programs would be evident to a reasonably intelligent fourth-grader but the imperative to serve the cause by rationalizing Biden’s giveaway forced liberals to treat it as a smart own. I think some even talked themselves into believing it. Propagandists lie to others, then lie to themselves to justify propagating the original lie. Propaganda rots the brain, then the soul.
That’s one reason why, when I’ve been forced to choose, I preferred to be a traitor than a propagandist. Here’s another: What is the right’s “cause” at this point? What cause does the Republican Party presently serve? It has no meaningful policy agenda. It literally has no platform. The closest thing it has to a cause is justifying abuses of state power to own the libs and defending whatever Trump’s latest boorish or corrupt thought-fart happens to be. Imagine being a propagandist for a cause as impoverished as that. Many don’t need to imagine...
I would rather fail as a writer than succeed if success means being some demagogue’s footstool. To the extent my work at Hot Air has made that clear, I’m happy with it.
Never forget, it’s not the 30 percent of Trump worshipers within the party who brought the GOP to what it is. It’s the next 50 percent, the look-what-the-libs-made-me-do zombie partisans, who could have said no but didn’t. I said no. Put it on my tombstone."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

Hilarious that even Bill Barr can now be shown on Fox News, and Trump is still essentially banned. He's still a pretty unsavory character, but someone at Fox News is trying to stem the Trump tide.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostBill Barr -- on Fox News -- destroys the stupid idea that Trump can or should declassify the documents.

Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Yep. Makes for interesting bedfellows in the Church in places like East Mesa where they voted someone like Andy Biggs into public office. Like yeaaaahhh maybe skip stake conference. You never know who might be a member of the minutemen or something...Originally posted by falafel View Post

McCarthy kicked Liz out for not being a denier. Do you think he'd stand up to anything ?Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post
And Sarah Palin just lost in Alaska. The deniers are losing control.
Let's not forget that the democratic party has been wiping out republican moderates by funding ads for election deniers to the tune of $45M. Bastards.
