He's following Trump's cue of announcing that Jan 6 insurrectionists should be pardoned. The obvious tack of MAGA leaders is to signal to the base that violence is now justified. It's more important than ever that GOP leaders grow spines and start to repudiate their fringe. So much depends on the mid-terms. The only way the GOP will move away from Trump is if enough of his candidates lose in November. If they win, the GOP will double-down on Trump and the country will get nothing but uglier.

Quick civics lesson and news update for you, Ted. I'm doing this to help you stop making the same rhetorical errors.

Trump was impeached, twice.

Upon impeachment, the Senate conducts a trial. A 2/3 majority of the Senate is required to convict. With so many GOP lips pressed firmly against Trump's buttocks, the likelihood of conviction was infinitesimally small (he'd be acquitted for murder on Fifth Avenue, as he has bragged, reflecting his own belief that his supporters are idiots).

The only penalty for an impeachment conviction is removal from office. Imprisonment can only be imposed through the criminal justice system, something Congress is not a part of.
