President Trump: Making America Great Again...

I'd be fine with that, as long as the new presidential term still begins on Jan 20. That should still give Donald enough time to rent a Uhaul and get his crap out. Heck, I suspect that the local EQ could even pitch in to help as long as he chips in a couple of Little Caesars pizzas.Originally posted by Walter Sobchak View PostHa. Not a bad idea to shorten his stay after he loses. That cartoon is pretty accurate...Meaning the responses are appropriate, although it is a little dated with the issues that the Boeing 373 Max is having. The other issue I have with it, is claiming that programmers are scared of blockchain. Blockchain is a pretty good system, but if you permit an analogy here, blockchain is like putting the best, high end lock on the front door of your house. People are not likely to crack the lock. You still need to secure the vulnerable points of your home like the windows (yeah, haha, Microsoft Windows... vulnerable) or the backdoor and that is where the issue is.*Originally posted by Now who’s the dean? The effort and cost to secure voting software is just too much, when paper ballots do an adequate job.
*I thought I stole that analogy from UT, but I can't find it on the board.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostNope... but I have never seen a secure on-line voting platform yet. They usually all suck given there is not a clear audit trail record of things, not to mention the authentication problem of who is actually doing the voting. It is still a really bad idea.
Hyperledger is the idea of a distribution ledgers using blockchains... similar to the bitcoin idea. That may give the perception of a complete and secure audit trail but building secure systems is hard.

I really like Utah's vote by mail process and system. And it gives me some amount of confidence to know that a certain ballot filled out in someone's behalf was tossed due to the signature not matching. I actually considered doing that myself for my missionary son, when we didn't think to send it out to him to fill out himself - so I'm glad I didn't.
I understand that Utah works hard to keep voter rolls up to date and only gets around 1-2% returned due to wrong addresses.
I also read somewhere that in some jurisdictions they get more than 10% returned.
So - I love vote by mail. I think it should continue. But I don't have a problem with people expressing concern about potential problems. Because I don't think everyone does it as well as Utah. And - let's be honest - I think that often the post office is run by morons (I'll put that in a rant elsewhere) so I can understand not completely trusting them.
I also agree with the concept of identifying and taking actions that will help keep voter registration rolls up to date and help reduce fraud. I don't think anyone would be against that - and I can't give any specifics as to what that even means.

The U.S. and New Zealand. That's a great comparison because the two countries are so similar.Originally posted by Commando View PostLet's see... 2 new cases. The horror. 22 total deaths in NZ. When your president actually lifts a fucking finger this is the result.
The U.S. has had 300k new cases in the last 7 days and we're at 184k deaths. But I mean, Trump is killing it. Defending him is a great look, trust us.

I think the idea isn’t that blockchains don’t work/aren’t useful, but rather that someone claiming their voting system is secure because “blockchain!!” is to be trusted as much as someone claiming homeopathy works because “quantum mechanics!!”Originally posted by beefytee View PostThat cartoon is pretty accurate...Meaning the responses are appropriate, although it is a little dated with the issues that the Boeing 373 Max is having. Utah's system is awesome. Both places I've used it in Utah had ballot drop boxes so you don't have to rely on the post office to deliver your ballot if you don't want to. It's so much better than going to the polls.Originally posted by Eddie View PostI really like Utah's vote by mail process and system. That is a great cartoon.
I have tons of confidence in vote by mail. Software-based voting - not so much. With apologies to HFN: computer programmers are assholes and cannot be trusted. 10 votes suppressed is a far worse problem for our republic than 100 fraudulent votes.
Mail in voting should increase voter participation for a whole host of reasons that were present prior to concerns about the pandemic."The first thing I learned upon becoming a head coach after fifteen years as an assistant was the enormous difference between making a suggestion and making a decision."

There are lots of recent examples of votes being suppressed by mail-in voting... e.g.,

A national forewarning: Wisconsin's high absentee volume and ballot errors
[...]
Nationally more than 300,000 absentee ballots were rejected in the 2016 presidential election, according to data from the U.S. Election Assistance Commission. That number is likely to grow in November.

LOL... Kayleigh totally nuked Pelosi today:
And Pelosi said she was set up and the hair salon should be apologizing.

So the Orange Julius didn't want to visit a WWI graveyard because it was "filled with losers"?

Multiple credible sources have backed up the story but of course he lies about it. I see he even claimed that he never said anything bad about John McCain's military service even though we have it captured on video.
