It looks like it has just been posted on social media. It's possible a reported hasn't had the chance to follow up on it yet.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostHmm... Google shows almost no news coverage of this.
It's very believable
ICE is doing awful things though, like pepper spraying Chicago police officers, beating up elderly protestors etc. ICE is now better funded than all but 12 militaries around the globe.

Maybe it's because ICE's violations have become so commonplace.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostHmm... Google shows almost no news coverage of this.

Yeah, well I like to verify stories like this. Plenty of BS to wade through on both sides.Originally posted by frank ryan View Post

The story mentions that he had several run-ins with the the police ("including driving without a license"). Would be curious to see what the other violations were and if any of them impacted his legal status."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? A huge part of what makes stories like this difficult to confirm quickly is ICE not following the normal rules of due process and their secretive behaviors. The rules all other law enforcement follow, they don't believe apply to them. They never get warrants, they don't tell people what they're being arrested for, they often don't confirm someone is even in their custody for days, weeks, or even months, and they take full advantage of how slow the legit legal and judicial process can be. These tactics have repeatedly been shot down by the courts but then they ignore those decisions.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

I'm just explaining why that sort of brutality is very believable. And if this didn't happen it doesn't damper my fears of ICE. As I shared earlier their funding they've been allotted (while important programs are being gutted) exceeds the funding relatively large militaries get.

I don't like what ICE is doing, or how they are going about it. Likening their funding to military though makes sense if you look at what the current administration is using them for. They see the open border policy of Biden as an invasion of our country. Reports of upwards of 20 million people in the last 4 years (that number is highly debatable, more likely 10 million). So they see it is a response to protecting our national sovereignty.Originally posted by frank ryan View Post

Do I agree with what they are doing? No. Do I agree that something has to be done? Yes. You can't let things go unchecked.
What I would like to see is the two parties work together on removing illegal immigrants (whether they are violent or not). But one party sees them as a national security threat, and one party does not.
The Dems should be flexible and support closed borders and removing folks that don't legally have a right to be here. They wont. The Republicans should be more open and transparent about what they are doing and with due process. They wont.
So, here we are.

I don't think it's fair to label the dems as recalcitrant on this one. Trump himself stymied a GOP bill that had bipartisan support.Originally posted by The_Tick View Post

I'd suggest he did that because wanted border control concern as being/perceived as being as out of control as possible.
We don't need an internal paramilitary force to handle these issues. This administration and ICE don't inspire trust.

Is the bolded part an accurate portrayal? I'll admit I don't follow things that closely, but I remember a lot of the criticism of Biden was that he left many of the border and immigration policies in place that were there when Trump was in power. Wasn't he fighting to leave a policy in place that the courts forced him to reverse.Originally posted by The_Tick View Post

A quick search finds that ICE arrests under Biden were on the same level as Trumps first term: Tracking administrative arrests by ICE through the Biden, Trump presidencies, in Chicago and nationwide - CBS Chicago
I'm sure there were many more people who crossed the border since the perception generally was things could work out better with Biden, and you had Kamala Harris' poor handling of the border resulting in her telling people "Do not Come." So, there is that.
But I know you have looked into this much more than I have so I'd love an explanation for calling Biden's policies being "open border".

Along the lines of needing to tone down some of the rhetoric, Benny Johnson posted some creepy images of him as Batman, beating up minorities. Johnson unfortunately has a large audience and is embraced by the right despite being on the take for Russia and losing jobs for plagiarism.
https://ca.news.yahoo.com/maga-podca...211826853.htmlAfter spending the past weekend hanging out with Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Chicago, MAGA podcaster Benny Johnson celebrated by posting an AI-generated video that featured him portraying Batman and beating up multiple people wearing sombreros and ponchos – including at least one woman.
Johnson’s post comes after President Donald Trump and conservatives havegone overboard with posting racist memes of Democrats wearing sombreros, sporting cartoonish handlebar mustaches, and dancing to mariachi music – all as part of an effort to misleadingly claim that the government shutdown is because Democrats want to give free healthcare to undocumented immigrants.
In this instance, however, Johnson was referencing this past weekend’s ICE raids in Chicago, which featured him tagging along with Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, wearing a Border Patrol flack jacket, and taking pictures with masked federal agents in full military garb.
I know a lot of people will say it's just a meme for lolz, but it's gross. He's a propagandist, just like Tucker Carlson, Glenn Beck of Tim Pool. He is not a journalist.
