    • So, let me get this straight.

For its investment of munitions and training for Ukraine, the West has:
      1. Stopped (for now) Russia's territorial expansion
      2. Significantly depleted the Russia military
      3. Created unrest and civil war in Russia
      4. Potentially led to regime change, although it isn't clear the new regime would be better.

I mean, as bang for the buck goes, that's pretty good.

It's a real bargain. Of course, don't tell the MAGA cult that.

        • Well that was disappointing.

I don’t know. That might be the best overall outcome given that having Wagner in charge of the government and nukes is a very shaky proposition. Maybe this gives just enough instability to Putin and the Russian military, that Ukraine can gain a real advantage here.

I had some of the same thoughts, though it seemed unlikely Wagner could ever take control of the government. Ultimately, it exposes dissent and turns the pressure up on the current regime. I really just wish the process would have taken a lot longer to give Ukraine more time to capitalize on the battlefield. Hopefully it was enough.

              • So what's the over/under on Prigozhin getting offed? I don't think he can last very long.

The fact that he's still alive makes me wonder what kind of cards he's holding.

He leads a mercenary army. As soon as that army is folded in with the Russian Army, it is no longer a threat. He also enjoys support from a segment of Russians. How much support, I'm not really sure. How much blowback will Putin take when Prigozhin's killed?

I bet he's already jumped out of a window.

                      • Crazy move by Prighozin. He must know he is a dead man walking.

Reports from today are that Ukraine is establishing a beachhead on the south side the Dnieper River at Antonovsky Bridge. The gawdless commies are retreating in the immediate area as Ukraine is growing and resupplying its forces on the South Side of the Dnieper. Russia moved significant forces out of the Kherson area to reinforce the Zazophoria area after destroying the dam so the area the Ukrainians are resupplying and growing is less defended than other areas. I am assuming that the gawdless commies have erected in depth defensive fortifications south of the Dnieper River but they are far more vulnerable in this area.

If Ukraine can build and maintain a reliable bridge over the Dneiper at this spot-it could be game on in the South.

                              • So Prighozin suddenly rebels, and almost as quickly concedes, and is banished to Belarus, which is a vassal Russian state. I am struggling to find a logical reason to rebel, which leaves the door wide open for speculation and conspiracy (which I'm a sucker for).
