  • Over the last month or so the dems seem to be gaining ground or surpassing both in the generic congressional ballot and with Biden vs Trump head to head. I think the Trump indictment and trial news may be having an effect. We'll see if it grows into a bigger trend.

don't be so surprised if he starts saying that even before being elected.
I actually thought he said something about that (generically) while he was in office.

      • Apparently DeSantis doesn't have enough money to pay for a realistic AI version of Trump's voice:

It was a joke or he was just trolling was the popular apologist response last time. This time it would lead to mental gymnastics national review articles explaining why it would be ok.

National Review has a lot of voices and there are a few folks that are too Trumpy for for my tastes; however, when looking at the collective whole, NR has not historically been very pro-Trump or pro-MAGA.

I mean, even a simple look at the wikipedia entry for NR would tell you that you might want to choose a better example for your conservative boogeyman. There are definitely outlets on the right that qualify for that role much better than NR:

            Trump era
In 2015, the magazine published an editorial entitled "Against Trump," calling him a "philosophically unmoored political opportunist" and announcing its adamant and uniform opposition to his presidential candidacy for the Republican nomination for president.[30] Since Trump's election to the presidency, National Review editorial board has continued to criticize him.[31][32][33]

However, following Trump's 2016 electoral victory over Hillary Clinton, some National Review and National Review Online contributors have taken more varied positions on Trump. Hanson, for instance, supports him,[34] while National Review contributors such as editor Ramesh Ponnuru and contributor Jonah Goldberg have remained uniformly critical of Trump.[35] In a Washington Post feature on conservative magazines, T.A. Frank noted: "From the perspective of a reader, these tensions make National Review as lively as it has been in a long time."[36]

            Biden era
In 2023, National Review has editorialized regularly against Trump's 2024 presidential candidacy.[37][38]

I meant national review in a pretty generic sense. Real Clear Politics would find some source I'm sure. The point is pretty undeniable though I think that it's been a moving scale of increased tolerance for Trump's authoritarian push among the GOP. Jan 6 was unthinkable until it happened.

There was increased tolerance for authoritarianism, but I think it has waned after Jan. 6.

He did. He said four more years. And then 'negotiate' for four more since Democrats were so mean to him during his first four. The inevitable aneurism can't come fast enough.

Trump and DeSantis haven't gotten the memo.

Yes, of course, but public support for their brands isn't exactly increasing.

Right, among the gen pop you are correct. But they currently have 75% of Republicans. This is why the GOP is set for another loss.
