I'm scratching my head over the criticism of Walz leaving the military to run for Congress. You ought to respect the desire for public service.
In my battalion, a few people made the decision to retire before the start of the Iraq War. There's always someone else ready to step up and fill the vacancies as they come. That's the nature of the National Guard. We source the mission from within our ranks in the state. We also get a lot of soldiers transferring from state to state, or coming off active duty to continue as a part time soldier.
My point is, there was no gaping hole to fill when he left. He didn't leave his unit hanging out to dry.
Why did JD Vance leave the military? We were still at war. Was he too chicken to stay in and support the effort? What about anyone else not in the military pointing their finger at Walz? Why didn't they volunteer and step forward when we were at war?
I don't fault JD Vance or anyone else for either not continuing or deciding they needed to join the military. There just seems to be some irony in the finger pointing is all I'm saying.
