Odd timing but the new Ford F-150 lightning price just went up by $7k."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. There is a Ford F-150 lightning at a local dealership that has been sitting on the lot for about six weeks. I guess no one around here wants an electric pickup that can only go about 80 miles pulling a trailer."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

The better f150 is the one with a built in generator. That way when the hurricane wipes out power for a week you can run your homes electricity from you truck."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. But the Dems saved civilization! Just ask Paul Krugman:Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostI see that the new bill that was passed (I can't keep track of what they are calling it now), reinstates credits for electric vehicles. How is this not just a handout to Tesla, etc? Seems to be pretty good evidence at this point that car dealers just jack up the prices to match the federal incentive.
https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/08/o...tion-bill.htmlDid Democrats just save civilization?
They really did it. The Inflation Reduction Act, which is mainly a climate change bill with a side helping of health reform, passed the Senate on Sunday; by all accounts it will easily pass the House, so it’s about to become law.
[...]
Given all this, however, why did every single Republican senator vote against the IRA? They aren’t all ignorant and innumerate; I’m pretty sure that Romney, for example, knows that he’s talking nonsense. Nor can we easily invoke differences in ideology. The IRA’s climate push mostly relies on tax credits — and Republicans have themselves used tax credits to achieve social goals, like the (much abused) Opportunity Zone credits in Donald Trump’s 2017 tax cut. Almost surely, what we’re really looking at is the politics of spite.
The good news is that the legislation passed in spite of their spite. And the world is a more hopeful place than it was just a few weeks ago.

Prepared to be audited as well...Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostGood grief, I can't afford a $16.7B tax bill.
https://hotair.com/jazz-shaw/2022/08...-class-n489425CBO: Actually, the "Inflation Reduction Act" will cause more audits for working class
A disturbing pattern has emerged when it comes to the messaging we’re seeing out of the White House in general and the Press Secretary in particular. They seem to believe that if you keep saying something that’s wrong over and over again, it will eventually either become true, or at least people will start to believe it. That’s truly been the case with the so-called “Inflation Reduction Act” that just passed in the House on a party-line vote. ‘This bill will lower inflation.’ (No, it will probably increase inflation or possibly not affect it.) ‘The bill will reduce the deficit.’ (Nope. That’s not what the models show.) ‘This bill will raise GDP.’ (Care to try again?) And then there’s the latest claim that the massive army of new IRS agents, many of them heavily armed but not trained in firearms handling very well, will not result in more audits of working-class people and will only impact those making more than $400k. They’ve said it over and over again. But the Congressional Budget Office begs to differ.
A Congressional Budget Office report found that the Internal Revenue Service will collect billions of dollars from auditing low- and middle-income Americans under the White House-backed “Inflation Reduction Act,” contradicting Biden administration claims, according to Republicans on the House Ways and Means Committee.
Fox News confirmed the report, finding the CBO informed congressional Republicans that, under the act, audits of taxpayers making under $400,000 will account for about $20 billion in additional revenue.
The news comes after high-ranking Biden administration officials, including Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, assured Americans that the IRS would not increase audits of people earning under $400,000.
There was a time when the members of Congress didn’t generally make too many claims about the fiscal impact of new legislation until the CBO had scored it. Apparently, that quaint practice is no longer part of the day-to-day routine on the Hill. The CBO estimates that audits of people making less than Joe Biden’s claimed minimum income will produce an additional $20 billion in revenue for Uncle Sam. That’s a lot of money even in these days of freewheeling deficit spending. And it directly contradicts what the White House has been telling us. Of course, it’s too late now.

This loan forgiveness thing bugs me, but $10,000 is likely a small dent in what many have accumulated. Even so, I worked hard with my children, all university grads by now, to keep them from taking on debt. And they didn't, working part time or tapping other resources (their aunt passed away and left them some money; not a lot, but enough for some). So to see others who took what I see as an easier, irresponsible path get some reprieve irritates me.
But then I see this and I can't join these repubs in their indignation.

That was dumb... I told all my children to take out as many government student loans and apply for as many pell grants (and scholarships) as they could. But as soon as they graduate pay off those loans as soon as possible. (I did exactly that when I was in school. I paid back all my student loans the first month after I graduated, in fact.) If the dumb Dems are going to throw money at you then take that sh*t before someone else does!Originally posted by myboynoah View PostThis loan forgiveness thing bugs me, but $10,000 is likely a small dent in what many have accumulated. IMO there is a vast difference between a PPP loan than a student loan. The PPP loans were specifically structured to encourage them to be forgiven. Everyone wnated them to be forgiven. They ensured people stayed employed in a time at hte beginning of the pandemic when the economy was teetering on collapse.Originally posted by myboynoah View PostThis loan forgiveness thing bugs me, but $10,000 is likely a small dent in what many have accumulated. He's partially right, you know... forgiving student loans will cause inflation too:

I think student loan forgiveness is dumb, pandering, and ultimately counter-productive to its ostensible goals. I've been consistently opposed to it.
Having said that, watching the hand-wringing and pearl-clutching on Cougarboard, Twitter, and other places claiming that this represents the downfall of the republic and calling for Biden's impeachment has made me reconsider and think it may be worth it.

I’m all for student loan forgiveness. Trickle- up economics absolutely is more logical than the myth of trickle-down economics. The entire purpose of student loans is to incentivize and facilitate higher education to raise all the boats in the water. How that is a less worthy objective than the ppp loans designed to stimulate the economy, I’m not sure. I also like to see Cougarboard types kicked in the balls, too, so — bonus.Last edited by Commando; 08-24-2022, 08:36 PM."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch!
