  • I'm just sitting here in my house lamenting the moisture that is falling. I was going to head over to Murray Parkway for 18 holes this morning.

    • If you buy 2 boxes of Bridgestone E Series balls, you get a Bridgestone tour hat and tour polo. Its an $85 value. Any local golf shop should have the promotion.

      • Played 18 today. I was fighting my swing all day. I threw my scorecard away when I was +9 through 3 holes. But on the back 9, particularly my last 3-4 holes I started figuring things out. 2 pars and a bogey to finish. I was seriously thinking most of the day that I cannot give any more money to this damn sport before those last few holes.

There's nothing like the flight of a well struck ball to bring you back.

Why can't you hit a good shot 72 times in a row? The worse thing about golf is the better you get, the worse it will treat you. You will know what I mean on that day you have a 4 footer to shoot a 79, and you 2 putt.

A good example is Sergio Garcia's game right now. It's has him by the back of his neck, and kicking his butt all over town, saying "Who's your daddy.....? Who's your daddy?"

I've been meaning to ask.... what club do you belong to?

I've always found that the trick to winning a club event is to cheat. Of course I've never won a club event, just an observation. I'm aware that some guys in our club will shoot lights out, and go double double to finish. They never want to be less than a nine and lose their stroke on half the course.

                • I was on fire through 14 holes at Spanish Oaks today. I was only 4 over. I finished (this is no lie) Triple, quad, par, +5. Unbelievable. I am still pissed it will take a long time for me to get over this.

                  • Played better today. Shot a 97. Not too bad considering that I put 5 in the water.

Oakridge. My new "postive attitude' approach didn't work. I host 86 and had the ususal 3 triples and two doubles. I can't get away from these hack holes. Then I find out in my flight net 69 wins. I can't believe it. The rough is thick, but net 69 wins????? One triple and one double away from the win and $200 in prize money.

Note: Yes there are handicap manipulators. However, our group we don't find them. Our own game is worth far more than a club tourny and we have our own handicap system. 30 showed up to play in the group today.

71 what is happening with the triples? Are you making one bad shot then trying to hit another miracle shot to avoid bogey only to see a 4 turn into a 7 (that is my usual cause)? You seem like way too good of player, much better than me I might add, to have a triple more than once every 4 or 5 rounds.

I thought you were a Utah Valley guy, I didn't know you were out the Farmington direction. I'll give you more of a pass for not wanting to go to crappy home games and deal with traffic if you live on the other side of SLC.

That is my biggest problem. I Tin Cup it all the time. For example. I crushed this drive yesterday 300+. I have a sand wedge into the green. Problem is I pulled the ball left into the rough behind a tree. Between the tree and the green is large bunker. I decide to try and go over the tree when I should have pitched out to the right and try and run the ball up onto the green or at least leave me something with an easy chip where I can save par. Of course the ball hits the top of the tree and Plinkos all the way to the bottom sitting in pine needles. I have the same option. Instead I decide to go for the pin over the bunker. I hit this shot right into the bunker. Now I have to hole out of the bunker to save par. I get out of the bunker but have a 20' putt that I then 3 putt. I am an idiot.

seem to be a better player is based on prior years. My handicap has gone from a 6 at the end of last summer to a 12 now.

One shot causing big trouble is it right now. I am absolute duck hooking my 3 wood. On two par 5's the duck hook gets me behind trees in the heavy heavy rough. I also hit a tee shot OB in a place where I have never done that before.

Since we (my sheet hanging partner) and I have a ton of best ball bets, it does cause one to go for broke as there ends up on our bets not much difference between a bogie and a triple. However, Johnny Miller is right. Hit a shot to get back in play, then hit the miracle shot.

From google earth it looks like a really nice club. Sound like a good group of guys as well. It seems as though I played there 26 years ago this month. Family reunion at Cherry Hill.

Our group plays a 3 roodles game on Saturdays, and pay balls if you birdie and no one else birdies the same hole. We usually have 40++ show up and the game is $7 each. If your team wins, its usually $60-80 bucks each. 90% of the guys are great playing partners, but the bad apples can really kill a good time.

I didn't play today, as I'm working on a huge project, and my Callaway FT-9, I-Mix, Tour, 1* open, 9.5 loft, has not arrived yet. The shaft came today, a Grafalloy Axis Blue with the i-mix tip. I have a feeling I'm going to be a shaft collector when it only takes a minute to switch them out.

Which begs a question. Can you carry more than one shaft, and swap it on a hole to hole basis, or do you have to play the same shaft for the whole round?

I shot a 94 today. Not as good as last week, but I feel good about the round as this course is tougher than my home course. I played solid all day. I couldnt find a fairway on the front 9, but at the end of the round I was ok.

I had a meltdown on hole 10. Drive was way right, great 5 iron back to the fairway. I chunked a 7 from 150, chunked my sw right into water, dropped and hit right again, this time into the bunker, hit that right into another bunker, finally onto the green and 2 putt. After I hit my sw the first time, I chucked it about 30 yds, and then ran it ver 3 times with the cart. Not my finest display of decorum, but it made me laugh and helped me get it out of my head. Dont worry, the SW held up fine...

After that it was damage control. I am pleased to end up where I did. I am pissed at 17 & 18. On 17 I was 94 out after a great drive and pulled my gap wedge way left. On 18, I was 20 feet short of the green after 2 (par 5). I left my birdie putt 3 ft short and I nancied my par putt and left it 2 inches short.

I am getting better. Soon I will be able to fit all the pieces together. I now feel I am capable of a mid 80's round, I just need to get these meltdown holes out of my game.
