Sound like a fun game. He also play a team format called the investment. Teams are drawn at random with an A, B, C and D player which is just based on handicap. It is done so each team has about the same total handicap. There are three games and each game is against all the other teams. One is a $5-5-5 nasau based on the two lowest net scores per hole. Next is an off game. Two of the four have to have net pars each hole. Missing a net par is called an off. You can have one or two offs on a hole. Each off is $5 per person to each of the other teams. Last game is total stokes. .50 a stroke.

Max I have ever seen was when we had 11 teams and one team lost $430 per man. We have now cut down the amounts if there are more than 7 teams. Keeps it down to around $140 on a bad day.

Guys also have individaul nasau's and best ball bets. A friend and I hang a sheet. WE take on everyone who signs up. WE usually get 25-40 bets. Amazingly I have kept track each year and though there are big swings, at the end of the year the total one way or another isn't all that much.

We load everyone's scores in the computer and it spits out the results. We play Weds. Fri. and Sat. We have too many old guys. I mean really old. When I started playing these guys were in their late 50's and now they are late 70's and even 4-5 in there 80's. We are having trouble attracting younger players. They don't want to play with the old, old farts.

Wow... that's some serious golf. It'd be fun to get in on some of that action. Our 80 year old guys still shoot in the 80's, and are very well respected. The club president joined in 1952, and shoots his age.

It occurs to me that your best source of clients must come from your golfing community. I can hear it now... "Don't worry about about paying me the $200.... just let me put my ninja like financial skills to work on your portfolio." After 20+ years, you could have a nice client base.

And when my wife and I visited Scotland (sans clubs), we drove through St. Andrews and I insisted on stopping by The Royal & Ancient and the closing holes of the Old Course. I noticed the first tee was open and I asked the starter if it were possible to get in a round. He said if I could get a set of clubs and be back on the tee within ten minutes, he'd send me out. The missus, being very understanding, said she'd head into town and come back in a few hours. I ran to the pro shop (a quarter mile away), got a set of clubs and shoes, and teed off on the Old Course ten minutes later. I started horrifically (six over after three), but finished strong, including pars on 17 (the Road Hole) and 18 for a decent 87. The last hole was a special treat, as townspeople and vacationers stand around the fence watching people finish. After crossing the famous Swilcan Bridge, I hit a wedge into the rough on the backside of the green. Onlookers flagged my ball, and with the gallery looking on, I miraculously chipped out of the deep grass to within two feet of the hole to the warm applause of the gallery. I tapped in for a par and another enthusiastic round of applause. I felt like I'd beaten Nicklaus for the British Open title. St. Andrews is the Holy of Holies in golf.
I'm not kidding... I got teary eyed reading that.

Maybe we should do a CUF pilgrimage to St. Andrews. We've only so many sunny days on our backs left.

        • I went out today after a morning rain. I actually put most of my drives (70%) in the fairway with halfway decent distance for being wet. I still struggled with my 2nd shots consistently being just off the green. I was deadly with my chipping almost holing out 3 different times and leading to several easy 1 putts. Since HFN told me to shut up and quit sandbagging, I put up my yearly stats showing how seldom I'm hitting GIR. Obviously, driving better today made the whole rest of my game much easier to get up and down.

I'm playing a much tougher private course next week with a friend, so will see if these low to mid 80s are a mirage or not.

          • Heads up to some of you casual golfers looking for clubs. Costco has the Taylor Made r7 XD clubs for sale. Not sure if these are the draw weighted ones or not. Also not sure of the shafts as I did not go in to look at them but just saw them advertised from outside. But the set includes everything but a bag and putter. Driver, 3W, 5W, 4 Hybrid, 5-SW. All for $599.99. I have only seen used clubs come close to that price. $800 on eBay.

              • My dad got some Callaway X-20s today. While at the shop they had a Walter Hagen junior golf set. It was sweet, stand bag and everything. Regularly it was $150 but it was on clearance for $50. It also was turquoise which is my daughter's favorite color. She's been begging to play golf. So nana and papa threw down $25 and we kicked in the rest.

Now I am envious for some new irons.

                  • I am playing in a 4 man scramble on Saturday at Gladstan. We have two really, really long hitters in our group, and another guy that is lights out putting. I am not sure what I bring to the team but I hope to contribute something.

                    • The club has passed a new monthly charge. $35 a month cart fee. That is $420 a year. Based on what I have been paying for a cart. That's 35 1/2 rounds a year. I should come out ahead if this weather changes.

I am sure there are going to be a few who will be really be ticked off.

                      • Remember when you were a teenager going on your first dates. That first hand held, the kiss, and the inadvertent brushes. Well, yesterday I got my Callaway FT-9, Tour 1* open, 9.5 loft, with I-Mix. Today on the first tee - smack right down the middle. Second shot same thing. Third mild draw right down the pike. 5th, 6th, 8th (just ok) 9th... best drive ever on that hole leaving a 8 iron, when I usually hit a5.

I'm in Love... Then came the back.

Push right times 6. Errant tees had me scrambling. Never hit one good drive on the back.

The results = 40+41=81. One birdie. Should have had 2 more. 3 putted 3 times from less than 20'. I figured I easily left 8 shots out there. Stupid little errors that you'd never do again. I won $6 on the KP's and pushed on the F/B/18. Best shot-o-the-day... a 7 iron from 158, to 3' and a birdie.

                        • Got a round in after work today. It was really windy, which made playing not much fun. Anyways, opened with a par, and it was all down hill after that. I quickly lost my desire to play since I was not having any fun. After a few holes I decided I was going to just use the round as a stress reliever, so I tried killing every drive and took on a DGAF attitude about the round. I didn't lose my temper once, but played like crap. Shot a 103, but it felt good to leave some frustration out on the course.

In a positive note, the round was basically free. I took second place (net) at the last mens club tournament (won $75.00 in script) and found out I won a skin as well ($66.00 cash in an envelope waiting for me when I checked in.)

I played 2 rounds with the R9 Supertri and LOVE IT! I know everyone, myself included, claims a new driver added 15 yards, but in this case it actually did. Granted I'm hitting all my clubs better right now, but I feel much more confident with the R9 than I have other drivers in a long time. Not coincidentally I'm now selling my barely used Diablo (RH, 10 degrees, Draw face, stiff). If anyone is interested in it let me know, otherwise it is going on eBay later.
