I always watch Michael Breed and the Golf Fix, he said the biggest mistake amateur golfers make is that their hands are not in front of the ball at impact, instead they try to scoop the ball. I find my self scooping a ton with my shorter irons. 7,8,9, PW. My long irons I am fine, but that is why I have a big gap between my 7 and my 6 iron. I hit my 6 about 195-200, my 7 I only hit about 160-165.

    Big hole in my game.
I love the Golf Fix too. And scooping is my problem also. I didn't notice that I was doing it until I videotaped my swing last weekend. Also my left elbow bends slightly at the top of my backswing which has been making it harder for me to get it back to square at impact. Between those two moves I am losing a lot of power. Keeping my hands in front of the ball has been a chore.

Keeping my lower body quiet with a better upper body rotation. On my short game I'm working on a dead hands approach and it's made a ton of difference. Twenty years ago I played all the time and got it down to a four but since I starting riding my bike more it's gone up to a 13.5. I'm sick of playing shitty golf and so I'm working on some things and yesterday it felt like I was finally getting the club face on the ball. I may not quit this game after all.

      • In a meeting today, the Div President uttered a golf homily that I have never heard before. He said "err on the Pro side of the hole."

I still like "drive for show, putt for dough" better tho.

My favorite (and the one I use the most) is not a homily, but an expression.

            Dammit!

            • My team won the Oregon Sports Network scramble the other day in a downpour, shooting a 58. We got a Nike putter, Titleist wedge and a $50 gift cert to the course where it was played.

I am hitting the ball better than I ever have before, but I am not scoring any better. Getting frustrating.

You're a better man than me if that is all you say.

The Bishop played his best round in a downpour, but he was struck by lightning. Perhaps that would help your game.

What have you added in terms of distance with the new clubs?

10-15 yards a club, and I am more consistent. I find myself thinking "wow I can hit a PW 110 yards? I'm the most powerful man alive!"

Fun isn't it? Sometimes I like to think that I could go yard in a major league baseball stadium with a pitching wedge.

                        • FINALLY, finally. Shot a 78 today and yes, real golf course. On fire front nine, 35, 3 birdies and 2 bogies.

Started back with a triple and doubled two other holes, but par on the other 6 resulting in the 78.

You deserved that after the beating the market took today. Congrats.

                              I'd love to break 80. Or 90.
