Anyone looking for a new set of irons? Here is a very nice set. I know the previous owner played very well with them. I don't know for sure, but I think the main reason he is selling them is for extra $$$ to pay off his soon to be ex-wife (I think she may have been cheating on him, or something like that)

I'm not a very good golfer. I only play 5 or 6 times a year and usually shoot between 95 and 105.
95 would be a very good day for me.
I currently play a set of clubs made by a computer manufacturer - steel shafts, regular flex. My putter is a knock off. I have a G5 hybrid that I bought used that even seems to hit well except me. Steel shaft. My driver is a TM R540XD (or is it the 580? I can't remember), regular flex stock graphite shaft.
I leak a lot of shots right. I also slice a lot of shots right.
I also hit a lot of fat shots.
I'm considering buying all new equipment, something I've never done before. I.e. going down to golf galaxy or somewhere and getting analyzed and fitted, etc. Not sure if I'd get irons and driver and putter all at the same time (I also probably need a new bag), but I'll definitely get new irons and probably a driver. Maybe putter later.
Now, since this is sort of an academic exercise right now until some other things fall into place, I'm interested to see if anyone has some recommendations on iron sets/drivers given the brief description I've given of my game. I don't think I've ever had properly fit clubs. My previous set (before the computer clubs) was also somewhat no-name. It had stiff graphite shafts, which I think were wrong for my relatively slow swing. My current set has a regular flex steel shaft, which I think might be too heavy for slow swing. I.e. I need the extra speed generated by a lighter shaft. Any opinions are greatly appreciated. Even you, clackamas - I didn't mean to insult you in the jury duty thread.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

This is not as easy an answer as you might think, and it mostly revolves around how much you intend to play, how good you are, how good you want to be, and how much you want to spend.
There's a point where a average player can benefit from better equipment, and then there's an average player who will never play enough to justify the better equipment. There are a few of us here where a 1* open face compared to a square or closed face makes a difference. Although it's a little silly, a better player can tell the difference.
To answer without the lecture, There are some really good clubs that have replaced by newer models, and the older models are just as functional.
TaylorMade R-7 irons for example. They've been replace with R-9's, but are $300 less that they used to be.
If your going to play less than 10 times a year, and if your interested in good clubs with dynamic gold shafts, that cost less than $250 for a brand new set (of irons), I have information that could be useful to you.

I'm probably (I think) the type of guy that could benefit from better technology. I would certainly like to get better, and that involves playing more. If I invest in new clubs, I will likely invest in some lessons as well. However, I don't think I have the spare time to play once a week, e.g. I might be able to play as much as 2x a month, with some practice sessions thrown in between.Originally posted by clackamascoug View PostAll good... He has a set of Sony Vaio irons that should really help your club speed, since they have a super fast modem, especially compared to the dial-up model you're using. Plus, it doesn't make that annoying sound, which should help your concentration.Originally posted by falafel View PostI'm probably (I think) the type of guy that could benefit from better technology. There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

What is your handicap DH? I know you mentioned before you aren't able to play very often, yet you also said in passing that you can hang with a scratch golfer if he gives you 8 strokes. I'm just trying to calculate how many strokes you need to spot me next year when I come down for the MWC and you, Falf with his new dynamic gold shafts, and I hit the links.Originally posted by Donuthole View PostHe has a set of Sony Vaio irons that should really help your club speed, since they have a super fast modem, especially compared to the dial-up model you're using.
