If you had 3 putts at birdie in one round that shows you have POTENTIAL. If you played more you would probably be more consistent and be in the high eighties in no time.
Yeah what sucks even worse about coming into 17 and 18 is that my back 9 was pretty solid. I made birdie on 15 I think and par on 16 before going +7 on those last two. I ended up with 49 on the back 9.

My other three opportunities was a par 5 where my 3 wood hit the green took one giant leap and went 20 yards off the back. Pitched back on for a birdie attempt. Another was a par 4 where I hit driver then SW. And the other a par 3 where I put my 7 iron within about 7 feet. The par 4 I birdied was driver and then SW. None of these birdie putts weren't really make-able. And definitely not 3 putt-able. I just suck.

If I could have hit some fairways I would have been alright. I kept having to play out of the fairway to my right all day. My saving grace is that I hit the ball a long way. It just sucks that I am adding 30-40 yards to my second shots off the tee.

You had a birdie and three putts at birdie and still shot 105? You must have some holes where all hades breaks loose.

Oh yeah. I did triple putt all those birdie attempts save the lone birdie. First ball off the tee I lost in the woods. I think I started with a quad. Second hole was a par 5 and I was on in 6 and took 4 putts to get it in the hole. Nothing like sitting +9 after 2. I think a third of my strokes came off the first two and last two holes. There was no middle ground in my game yesterday. It was good. And it was bad. A lot more bad than good.

Maybe that is why I don't shoot in the 100's. After I hit a triple bogey, I pick my ball up. I never record more than triple.

I have a friend that has a rule that he will never give himself a score higher than double the par on that hole. Unless its a par 5 then it stops at triple bogey.

I actually think I benefited from that "rule" once yesterday. My dad was keeping my scorecard as I was carrying my clubs and he had a pull cart.

18 holes walking and carrying your clubs is pretty good exercise. I remember looking it up once on FitDay and it seems like it burned 1,000+ calories for me or something like that.

Yeah at my weight and for 4 hours of it came out to almost 2000 calories. Don't know how legit it is. I'd like to wear my Garmin sometime and try it but that thing would bug the hell out of me to wear while swinging a clube

Yeah, i have thought about renting a bodybug from 24hour fitness to see how fitday's approximations compare.

                    • I am going to try and get in 27 holes today. 9 at Sleepy Ridge around noon and 18 at Fox Hollow at 3:30.

I figure better get in as much as I can before the baby comes.

First time out in 6 months though and I hit some good shots. Just had a rough start and worse finish.
Is that a good finger or a bad finger?

I can't help that I started playing golf at 13 and played a couple of thousand times as a teenager. I had this inner drive about golf that as a 15 year old, I would pretend to go to school, but go golfing all day. I played and played, and chased the elusive perfect game. To be honest, with as much golf as I played as a kid, and my handicap was never lower than a 4, doesn't speak too well as to my real skill. Now at 50, and fluent in all things golf, I still can't put 2 under par nines together. And I've only ever shot 69 once in my life, when I was 23.

I will say this about golf though. It's given me back everything I've ever put into it. It's been a huge part of my life. I think the main reason I married my wife is that her Dad was as much as a golf nut as me - and before he died at 65, we played some good golf together. Now, my sons are addicted, and when we get together its 36 holes or bust! The best thing in the world is to play golf with your boys.

This is my favorite thread on CUF. I started golfing when I was 17. First major goal was to break 40 for nine hole's. Got close, but didn't happen until I was in my early 40's. Next came breaking 80. Got that not long after I broke 40 for nine.

Shooting par, got that eventually. Breaking 70, shot 69 once. Next, a hole in one. Got that with a 7 iron on number 5 at Oakridge. I haven't really thought of any more goals until your post. Now, I would also like to shoot under par on both nine's in one round. That one seems like a real reach. When I get into my 70's, maybe shooting my age could be a goal.

I totally agree with you, nothing as fun as playing golf with your boys and see them legitimately beat you.

                              • I started playing when I was 12. My parents got me a used set of Cougars for my 12th b-day. My grandpa was big into golf and anytime we had a family gathering, we would go golf. I shot a 120 my first time out.

Now, 24 years later, I sometimes have trouble beating that.

I didn't play on the high school team, but all my friends did. I stopped playing golf when I was 19 and went on my mission, then it was about 5 years before I golfed again. Even then, I only golfed 1-2 times a year. In 2003 I got a part time job at Copeland Sports in the golf dept after a failed attempt to become an insurance salesman and a 1 year hiatus as a stay at home dad. During this time I golfed 2-3 times a week (free and free lessons) and that's when I started posting my best scores (usually low-mid 80's. My best 9 is a 41 and my best 18 is somewhere in the low 80's maybe 83 or 84, never had a hole in one, but I saw one once.

Golf frustrates me to no end, but I could never give it up.
