You my friend run in different circles than me and my local no fee to join country club. If I was to play the courses you do on an annual basis, I too would match my socks, shoes, and belt with my head covers and monogrammed wedges. Now, if you'd let me make you a 7 wood with a driver shaft and would actually play it, you would be considered avant garde.

Finally feel like I am officially out of the golf grave I was in this year. 43-36 for 79. Had a triple and double to overcome.

Men's Club Report July 27, 2013

42+40=82

Zero Birdies, 9 Pars, 8 Bogeys, 1 DB.

Our club hosted the Oregon Public Links Championship this weekend, and we had to tee off on 10 to accommodate the guests. I played today with two gentlemen (and I say that loosely) Bruce and Dave. Bruce was the Club Pro at our club for 30 years until his retirement about 10 years ago. He was the Pro when I was a kid growing up and playing there, so it was with great fun that I played with him today. He's 72 and had a stroke 4 years ago, and doesn't have the same game he did, but he still thinks he can shoot in the 60's. I don't think he was too happy losing to me by one shot.

Was an interesting round in the fact that I only played 1 hole is true golf fashion (the 6th). The other 17 had at least one mis hit, but mostly I was able to get it up and down. My putting has been historically bad, but this year with the belly putter I'm rolling the ball very smoothly and on line. My son is coming up from Provo in Aug, and I will be in top playing form as we will play till we bleed.

Zero Birdies, 9 Pars, 8 Bogeys, 1 DB.

He's 72 and had a stroke 4 years ago, and doesn't have the same game he did, but he still thinks he can shoot in the 60's.

Did you make him count it.

Yesterday was a really fun day on the links. I had a pass for four to play Hidden Valley It had to be used by the 31st of July and yesterday was the only day my 3 sons and I all had open. A grandson also came along to just ride in the cart. I did the obligatory, "we really shouldn't be doing this on Sunday" and then proceded with the round. Son number one was an excellent golfer before his kids got old enough to take up all of his time. He plays a couple of times a year. To my surprise he threw down a 36-41 for a smooth 77 from the blue tee's. Son number two had just finished playing in a men's association event at Fox Hollow and had thrown down a 68. Although the best golfer of the 3 currently, I guess he had shot his wad and shot a 83. Son number 3 who has never beat either brother had his day in the sun. He is a pretty good 14 handicap and threw down a 40-36=76 from the blues. We putted them all out. The old man shot a respectable 87.

Lot's of fun and good chat. Boys are so busy with their families I don't get to talk a lot with them.

As we left I reminded them all, especially looking at my grandson, "although this was great, we all really should have been in church".

I know you and I feel the same about this, and just reading your report brought a smile to my face. My son(s) are coming home mid August and we are going to play till our hands bleed. As I'm in good form right now, and feel a 75 coming... I'm really looking forward to it. Plus... I've the got the book money on file so we can eat like kings between 18's.

Edit: for you younger guys... gets your kids playing golf, they'll enjoy it their whole life and every once in a while when they're adults, you get to hug your sons, and tell them you love them for 4 hours on a golf course.

I played Glendale on Saturday and the Ranches this morning.

At Glendale my opening tee shot I pulled a hair left and it was gobbled up by the turf monsters. Not sure how I lost it but it disappeared. Took a 7 on the opening hole, the next 17 holes I parred 12 of them (Bogeyed the other 5). I finish my 18 by taking another 7 after pulling my drive dead left off the utility garage. Blew my chance to shoot in the 70s and shot an even 80. I am still struggling to get off the tee quite a bit which has been frustrating. However I am scrambling well and did not have a single 3 putt.

This morning at the Ranches the hot putter continued again not a single 3 putt and I had 31 putts in 18 holes. The front 9 I struggled horribly off the tee again and shot a 46. The back 9 I played much better and fired a 39.

I feel like if I can fix my driver I can go really low.
