4th winning $230? That's a strong pot. My 3rd last week only got me $84.

    • Played 36 today, 2 different courses. First course I shot an 89 (50/39). 2 birdies and 3 pars. I missed my birdie putts on the final 2 holes by maybe 4" combined. Second round I shot an 88 (44/44). I had 7 pars and 5 doubles. It was really a roller coaster round. With these 2 scores, I have shot 7 rounds in a row in the 80's (2 of them were 6 red, 6 white and 6 from the blues). I have dropped 5 strokes off my index since 5/1.

        • We walked 18 at Davis County yesterday, from 3:00 to 7:30 pm Temperature was over 100 most of the time. It sucked, and my play didn't help, I was all over the place.

We normally play mornings, but I had to spend the morning tearing apart our kitchen for a remodel. I hadn't played in 3 weeks, and won't play again for a couple more so i was anxious to play. However, looking back, I wish I had chosen not to play. It was miserable, not fun.

No. Just a typical Saturday. We are off every other Friday and usually play 36 that day and sometimes (usually) play 18 on Saturday. We were invited to play with a co-worker yesterday morning and then went to our home course later in the afternoon. We have a membership at our home course that allows us to play unlimited golf with cart on Friday-Sunday.

Golfcation is 8/30-9/8. Although we just don't golf, we sprinkle in a little fly fishing and football.

I've heard about this fly fishing, allegedly it was going to happen in Oregon once.

                Lol, yeah. Someday I hope.

Yeah one of the local car dealerships adds about $2000 to the pot. Also a pretty full field.

One of the guys in our group, an older gentleman probably in his late 60s had to withdraw. He started off with 5 straight pars and was playing pretty well for a guy that was registered as a 15 handicap. However between shots he put his head down and looked to be really struggling. By about hole 6 his entire swing had changed and he took a 7 on a par 4, follows that up with a 6. He ends up leaving and tell us he has the flu and can't continue.

                  • I am in the market for new clubs. Since I am willing to pay whatever it takes to get the right clubs I was going to do a fitting. Where is the best place to do this? I looked into Golftech are they good? Anyway any advice would be very helpful.
( FYI I most likely wrote that incoherently and will be properly corrected forthwith. Thanks)

                    • I am a little tired and ache a bit today. Played 45 holes yesterday.

First 18 was the second leg of the July 24th tournament. My partner and I took second, well tied for second with 3 other teams, 1 shot out. That got us a $130 from the golf shop. More importantly we "hung the sheet" and had our regular "investment" group game, that netted us each $238, cash.

Then went out and played a nassau with a couple of guys. One of those guys and I have a $50 a hole bet. That lasted 27 holes and unfortunately I ended up $220 behind. Over the long haul that is how it seems to turn out, basically about even.

I shot 88, 84 and 40 on the last nine. I am so happy I am no longer throwing down the 108's.

I have heard good things about golf tech. There are a few guys in our mens club who take lessons there. They will try to sell you a complete package with lessons etc. to make sure your swing is in good shape before they fit you. The closest one to use is 2.5 hours away. If you were in California I'd recommend Carlsbad Golf Center in San Diego. They are very highly rated, have multiple fitting packages and carry all the major brands. They will go through every club in the bag and also do a ball fitting. Next time I get fit, I'll be going there. Last time I got fit was at a local golf sop, it took 15 minutes and I left with more questions than answers.

                        • I'll fit you right here - for free!

Buy a set of Black Dot PING G25's 4-UW with the CFS stiff shaft.
Buy 2 Mizuno Wedges a 56* and a 60* - and learn how to use them.
Buy Taylor Made R1 Black Driver, and Rocket Ballz Stage 2, 3 wood and 5 wood. Stiff.
Buy a putter that you like looking at and shows the line well.
                          Buy a PING Pioneer Bag.
                          Buy a Clicgear cart.

The reason for the diverse set is "complete and matched" sets are for posers. Real golfers piecemeal their sets and have a wide range of what they're playing. Play enough golf and you'll get into a groove of what works for you. If you have a matched set from Alpha to Omega and play like a wuss, you'll be a total wuss. Respect yourself and don't look like a dork.

Edit: The set I just described will be just as good and will match shot for shot anything a "fitting" will benefit you. Often fittings are just "come on's" to get newbies to pay more and for the fitter to sell the club that makes him the most money. The fitter doesn't love you more than I love you. This is the truth.

                            Wow, what a day.

I was feeling cocky after my 87 last Saturday and went out to Hobble last night. 47 over 9. grrr.

                              Whew...I thought I might be a poseur...

Also, totally disagree with everything in your post regarding fitting... I will say, that for a beginning golfer, spending money on lessons from a quality instructor or swing coach is money better spent than spending money on being fit for clubs. Fitting does have its place, and no, not all club fitters are created equal. There is a big difference in being fit by someone working at Dicks Sporting Goods and being fit by a PGA Professional. One club does not fit all.

I don't think it's that complicated or worth spending a lot of money on, unless you feel like you have a unique situation. You can find online instructions to get your club length requirements, grip size, and shaft flex (ie how far you hit a 7 iron). The lie will almost always be correlated to your shaft length, ie +1" = 2 degrees upright, etc. Or go into any golf store and pretend to be interested and they'll put you on the machine and get the info for you.
