Rates go up in the fall. But fear not. I'm going to buy this card, which will allow you to golf with me for $49 at a few of the courses here.

Ah, but that's when all the rates go sky high again. Regardless, I think there are still local discounts.

Hey, I'm buying the OB card too! That thing pays for itself, man! The other "Js" are buying one as well, I think.

          • My dad is having rotator cuff surgery next week. So he thought since he can't do any more damage to it that he'd take me out for a round of golf. I shot a sweet 102. I had just one par and back to back quads. Ugh. My mid-irons were spraying all over the place. Not to mention the back 9 was the longest of my life. We had the slowest group in front of us and we couldn't play through. They were taking turns one at a time instead of all setting up for their shots. The four of them would search for a lost ball together. They're playing the you're away still on the green the whole time, while one guy is doing his Tiger vision only to misread the green and leave himself 10' for his next putt. The last hole heading back to the clubhouse runs along the driving range. If you miss the fairway to the right good luck finding your ball as there are a million range balls there along the fence. Of course off the tee this guy slices it badly. Then they spend 10 minutes looking for his ball. I was going to explode. My dad too. My dad drove his ball right down the fairway. And then I put mine 75 yards past his down the center hoping to hit them. I ruined my 300+ yard drive by topping my 3W twice in a row before hitting a 7 iron short. Freaking 102.

Man, I got mad and I wasn't even there. I lose control and blurt out the big bad words far more often during slow play than I do when I hit horrible shots. Another problem I have is I get loose on the driving range and then stiffen up waiting to hit my ball.

WE once had some walkers in front of us that were slower than crap. I finally drove up to them and offered to pay for the boys to bring carts out to them. F bombs flowed freely.

Slow play kills me. One time my dad and I got stuck behind this slow group as we were making the turn. Hoping to get in front of them after we finished up the 9th we decided not to stop at the clubhouse and head straight to the 10th tee box. The group ahead of us decided to skip the clubhouse too and were teeing off. We asked to play through and they said no. My dad was livid. We went back to the clubhouse since we were going to have to wait. Come back after downing a dog and they're only on the green. My dad tees it up. This is an elevated tee box pretty high and it's a par 4 just shy of 400 yards. With a decent drive the ball will roll until you have a SW in. My old man went Happy Gilmore on it and drove the green as these guys were reading the greens. They were none too pleased. I tried to duplicate it and reached pass the ball and snap hooked it into the trees. My second attempt wasn't much better. We finished the hole and drove right past them skipping 11 to get ahead of them.

Nice drive, My best ever was probably 350. Downhill and onto the cart path for about 50 to 70 yards.

Seriously the only club in my bag that I am hitting well right now are my woods and SW. I'd say I average 280-290 off the tee with my driver. With some wind, elevation, or a slope running towards the green I can hit 300+ pretty easily if I get into it. Two weeks ago I was out driving some guys in the foursome with my 3W. I don't typically slice, but I do block the ball right at times. I tend to grip too tightly when I try and mash it and hook the ball. But if I stay within my swing, 280 is easy.

                    • Weak, Strong, or Neutral Grip?

I've been pushing the ball the right with my irons for a long time now, despite trying to work out better swing mechanics to close the face at impact. This last week I adopted a stronger grip and closed the face a bit at address and now I've been able to keep most shots straight.

I'm wondering if it was always as simple as figuring out that I need that kind of grip, or if I'm just taking a bit of a short cut that might hurt me in the long run. Any ideas? What sorts of grips do you all use?

Grip has always been a struggle with me. I used to interlock but would pull a lot of balls. Switched to a Vardon grip and it seemed to help quite a bit. Now I'll push balls right if my grip is weak. If I try and kill it I tend to tighten up and hook the ball. Grip, IMO has a lot to do with it. But this post isn't worth much. I shot 102 today.

Yeah, but you hit the ball 300+ yards. That's pretty sweet.

But my next two shots went a combined 50 yards.

                              • I have played 3 times already this week and am playing a 4th time on Saturday.

Sleepy Ridge, Riverside CC, and The Ranches so far. I am playing Wasatch (Mountain Course) on Saturday morning.

First two rounds of the week were solid, today at the Ranches it was unreal. That course is playing so hard right now if you miss the fairway the rough is US OPen length, also it is links style with every hole lined with 4 foot weeds and fescue. You have to be very straight on that course and I am not. It was a long day today, however my putter was as good as it has ever been. I rolled in 4 putts of 20 longer then 20 feet. I had a 60-70 footer shadow the cup, and I had another 40 footer hit dead center and not go down. It was unreal I bet I only had 25 putts on 18 holes today. I have never putted like that before. To bad it took me 7 shots a hole to reach the green.
