Got better when the second guy started his talk with "Unlike Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny, Jesus Christ is real." There was about 10 kids that started screaming and a handful of mothers took their kids out of sacrament. It was the hot topic for my 15 year old SS class that was wanting the HC strung up and one of the boys wanted to go confront him.

    • Our Sunday school lesson was on Daniel. The sunday school teacher starts out with, "you have all heard the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and a big negro..." :yikes: Most people were looking for the exit after that one.

That's pretty good but everyone knows that it's pronounces "To bed we go."

On a separate note, I received an email from the bishop earlier this week announcing that our stake has been given approval from SLCHQ for the construction of a pavillion and recreational facility, "including covered picnic tables and a volleyball court" at the stake center. Church general funds will cover most of the costs but our stake is on the hook for the remaining $45,000. "We must raise this amount by the end of the year."

WTH? Is this SOP for how the church peddles its wares for pet projects? Years spent seeking approval from SLCHQ only to give congregants 2 1/2 weeks notice to up their end of year donation? Just seems like someone's been putting their MLM pressure sales tactics to work.

Tell me how building a pavilion (or bowery, in Utah Mormon slang) and volley ball court cost more than $45k?! Is it being built on land already owned by the church? That better be one huge pavilion. Are they putting in grass?

Even if the church doesn't own the land, I'm sure it will plow ahead with the project anyway.

“I think it worked out perfectly. I just was surprised that an article written in The Spectrum is what finally brought them to the table. That article came out and the next business day at 7:30 in the morning we received a phone call from their representatives ready to deal with the issue,” said Councilman Troy Houston.
              lol, that is awesome.

              • Sacrament meeting speaker pulled out the "Aloha, Brothers and Sisters" on us today, and made us repeat it when we weren't loud enough. This guy is whiter than Mark Grace but without the Island connection.

Then, knowing that the choir was singing three songs after him, he talked until 15 past the hour. Aloha also means good-bye buddy!

                • I learned that when visiting our ward, the SP will make the priest with Downs Syndrome repeat the Sacrament prayer three times until he gets it "right".

lol. I'm sorry I guess I shouldn't laugh at that but that is way too ludicrous to respond otherwise. Thank goodness everyone's piece of bread was properly blessed, otherwise there would be no forgiveness of sins!

I couldn't believe what was happening the first time he had to repeat, then he had to do it again. Unreal.

This is a great kid who blesses the sacrament just about every week and the bishop has never made him repeat it - hell, you can only understand half of what he says anyway.

Are you going to step up and help your SP have a come to Jesus moment?

My guess is when he (SP) returns and reports, this act will not show up on his "you done good" side of the sheet.

                              • I learned that church would be much more enjoyable and spiritual if they just had 3-4 youth give 5 min talks and sing a few more hymns. Church is really good when it is spiritual.
