    Combined EQ and HPG meeting on Sunday. In response to someone's comment about addiction taking away agency, the visiting high councilman dropped this deuce without any other comment pushing the conversation that way. I reacted poorly, but I am glad I spoke up.

    HC:--A government that tries to take away your freedom in any way is abominable before the Lord.

    Me:--So, you'd free all prisoners?

    HC:--Well, no, of course not. But, this isn't the right time for that conversation.

    Me:-- Or the right building.

        Did they call a press conference to just dig their heals in on their stance on gays? Odd.

                    We are for anti-discrimination laws for gays and lesbians as long as we don't have to abide by them. #fairness4all.

                                    The church doesn't want people being fired for publicly supporting anti-gay causes, but they have no problem kicking people out of the church for publicly supporting pro-gay/equal rights causes. #fairness4all

                                                this oaks argument is very dumb. characterizing the church's provision of material support for positive law prohibiting the actions of others as voicing an opinion in the public square is disingenuous.

                                                    I'm not sure why the Church needs to have a press conference stating they support ati-discrimination laws. They should have been the first in line with support for decades now.

                                                            I may not be able to frame a lawyerly argument like the good Elder Oaks can, or try to sound as reasonable as Elder Holland, but let me try to help out.

                                                            The vast majority of the church's hand-wringing over gay rights encroaching on religious liberties could be solved by following this one weird trick: keep your religious convictions outside of the political arena.
