Honestly, why didn't the Bishop whisper in the SPs ear "uhhhh, not now Dude?"Originally posted by Katy Lied View Postyes, I'm laughing at the SP who is so out of touch. Sorry that the down's kid had to be the victim.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

Sorry that your Bishop lacked the cajones to tell the SP that the SP needs to know his place. The SP gets the sacrament first, but the Bishop oversees the sacrament ordinance.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostI learned that when visiting our ward, the SP will make the priest with Downs Syndrome repeat the Sacrament prayer three times until he gets it "right".

LOL! That SP is lucky he didn't pull that shit on some of the special Olympic boys on my lil sister's team when I coached them a while back. My downy boys would've told him to F-off....into the mike, probably.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostI couldn't believe what was happening the first time he had to repeat, then he had to do it again. Unreal.
This is a great kid who blesses the sacrament just about every week and the bishop has never made him repeat it - hell, you can only understand half of what he says anyway.

You're getting hosed. The plans that are available here don't show a volleyball court, just a park-style pre-fabbed covered pavilion (with lights). It'll be surrounded be lovely steel fencing to, presumably, keep out the Summerlin riff-raff. What I found most interesting is the existence of a 2" electrical line "to service future meetinghouse on west end of property." Google claims the estimated valuation of this project is about $200k, but I think it's closer to $45k.Originally posted by Dwight Schr-ute View PostThat's pretty good but everyone knows that it's pronounces "To bed we go."
On a separate note, I received an email from the bishop earlier this week announcing that our stake has been given approval from SLCHQ for the construction of a pavillion and recreational facility, "including covered picnic tables and a volleyball court" at the stake center. Church general funds will cover most of the costs but our stake is on the hook for the remaining $45,000. "We must raise this amount by the end of the year."
WTH? Is this SOP for how the church peddles its wares for pet projects? Years spent seeking approval from SLCHQ only to give congregants 2 1/2 weeks notice to up their end of year donation? Just seems like someone's been putting their MLM pressure sales tactics to work.
Also, apparently the money the church got in rebates over the last couple of years by ripping out the church's lawns throughout the valley and replacing them with ugly rock landscaping isn't enough to persuade them to forgo sod with the pavilion. On behalf of (non-Summerlin) congregations throughout the valley: :anger:

I felt the spirit really strong during our class. We teach the 9 and 10 year olds. My partner and I were teaching about Christ and how it is testified throughout the scriptures of His coming and mission.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostI learned that church would be much more enjoyable and spiritual if they just had 3-4 youth give 5 min talks and sing a few more hymns. Church is really good when it is spiritual.
It was really nice to feel that, it has been a while. It's funny the things you feel in a class of children. Much better than the classes with adults at times. Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

I can't wait to see how this construction improves our current "four wards in one building" parking situation.I told him he was a goddamn Nazi Stormtrooper.

I met with the mayor and city manager of Parowan last week and they related this whole story to me. Pretty funny.Originally posted by Solon View PostEven if the church doesn't own the land, I'm sure it will plow ahead with the project anyway.

It doesn't look like the parking should be affected much, if it all. But what this does mean is that either SLC is giving up on the idea of putting a second building there (the as-built plans here show that the new pavilion definitely takes up space where the future building would go), or that the pavilion is going to be ripped out and thrown away when the need for the new building materializes, and whoever dropped the $45k won't get that back.Originally posted by Dwight Schr-ute View PostI can't wait to see how this construction improves our current "four wards in one building" parking situation.

The only parking reference was the inconvenience of actual construction with the staging of equipment and material.Originally posted by LVAllen View PostIt doesn't look like the parking should be affected much, if it all. an old lady giving a talk in our ward just sang love one another in english and had the congregation back her in English while she sang it again in Japanese and portugese. Now she's calling on random people in the congregation to answer her questions. This is great.Te Occidere Possunt Sed Te Edere Non Possunt Nefas Est.
