Finally saw a movie at the theater. Guardians 2. That was a great Popcorn-Summer Movie.

On my list to get as soon as it comes out.

Get Out - Funnier than it is scary. Probably even funnier if I were black. I still think there's a gigantic plot hole in the whole thing but I'm not eager enough to watch it again to see if I missed something. The chick was annoying even when she was nice. The TSA agent schtick was lame, sorry.

Logan - I really don't know about this one. I really enjoyed it. I loved seeing an older Wolverine and Prof X. Their relationship was fun, but I'll admit I haven't seen the last 10 or so X-Men movies so I may not have understood it all. The little girl killer scenes were a little over the top, but fun in a way. I did laugh a bit as the one liners were good. The best one was "Not Okay!" which Logan said to the girl

Split - Better than I thought it would be given that M Night hasn't done much since the 6th sense. Somewhat predictable, but suspenseful in places. I'm glad I watched it but probably wouldn't spend the time to watch it again. McAvoy was great in it though. His different characters were very good but his facial expressions and overall acting were superb.

Get Out-- I have to hand it to em-- this was a fantastic cinematic critique of "post-racial' America. It's been a while since I've seen a movie like this.

Watched two documentaries today and both were very good. If You're Not in the Obit, Eat Breakfast! is currently available on HBO and, guided by Carl Reiner, looks at the lives of several nonagenarians and why/how they've lived so long. Conversations with guys like Reiner, Mel Brooks, Norman Lear, Dick Van Dyke (who looks great and is more agile than I am), Betty White and several others are fascinating and almost always humorous and/or touching. The only young guy who has much of a part is Jerry Seinfeld. I suspect the show's appeal will be a direct function of one's age, but I thought it was very entertaining. Be sure to watch through the end of the credits. Reiner on The Tonight Show is hilarious.

Get Me Roger Stone was also very good, but pretty depressing. Stone began his career as a political operative (the ultimate dirty trickster) when, as a third grader, he managed to get his grade school (located in a heavily GOP-leaning area) to vote in a mock election for JFK by telling kids in the lunchroom that Nixon was pushing for school on Saturdays. He went on to work for Nixon (he has a tattoo of Nixon's face on his back), Reagan, Dole, and W. But his piece de resistance is Donald Trump, whom Stone had been pushing toward the Presidency since the '80s. Though not as much in the forefront as other Trump advisers, he may be ultimately the most responsible for the situation we're in today. The guy's very smart and a total scumbag. Watch and weep for the state of American politics.

Yes, Roger Stone is a complete scumbag. Hate that guy.

I thought Get Me Roger Stone was fascinating. I'd only heard of him through the Showtime doc series The Circus about the election, which I highly recommend as well.

The Great Wall - holy crap Matt Damon. Did you not read the script before signing on to this one? Probably his worst movie, which is saying something since he was in The Brothers Grimm and Monuments Men.

Finally saw Wonder Woman. My only two thoughts upon leaving the theater were 1. Gal Gadot is very beautiful, 2. Do you think Pellegrino will have the hots for Diana Prince since she speaks ancient Greek?

My only thought is this: why do otherwise-respectable adults watch comic book superhero movies?

Bear in mind that it is hard for someone like you, with such a fabulous and fulfilling life, and with you using the correct operating system and all, to understand how the rest of us plebeians so desperately seek to avoid the depth of our quotidian tedium. So, please, be kind.

no, but I am sure it isnt pretty. Like my sad, sad life, burdened with all too brief distractions, such as watching Gal Gadot kick butt.

Question: Why does any human engage in wilful distraction of any kind: theatre, music, art, sports, literature?

Answer: Because that's what makes us human, and each human is a unique facsimile of our ancestry.
