My only thought is this: why do otherwise-respectable adults watch comic book superhero movies?
Or read any fiction story, for that matter? I mean-- what benefit could any literary archetype render in anyone's life? Only reading the encyclopedia for me!

There you go, folks. You can either like comic book movies or read nothing but the encyclopedia. There is no middle ground!

The Book of Abraham is about as close to comic books as you'll get...

"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Omg. I might even tune in for that podcast.

The scriptures and comic books employ the same literary archetype. How can you read them, being an otherwise-respectable adult?
Touché. I forgot about 1 Nephi 17.

See John Stuart Mill's "greatest happiness principle", which can be summed up succinctly:
Better to be Socrates dissatisfied than a fool satisfied.

Who are these so-called "respectable" adults? 71 doesn't even post much anymore.
I think that's the ignored point here-- who are all these respectable adults posting on a sports board all day, only now bringing shame to their names only by going to a comic book movie?
