Yes, it's a sweet love story and also a little history on the invention of the vibrator.
Oh nice! I saw the trailer for this last week and thought it looked good despite all the potential blush-inducing moments.

Well, I am probably not the best judge, but I didn't there was anything that would make you too uncomfortable. But yeah, you might not want to go see it with your mom.
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

I've never read the book and don't plan to. The movie was disjointed with a poor script, poor directing and poor acting. Other than that, it was OK.

I tried reading the book once, and found that it is one of those books that when you put it down, you just can't pick it up again.

          • The Dictator. I went with my sis, instead of my wife, who has standards. We were the only ones in the theater, perhaps due to the theater manager/ticket clerk who strongly recommended we not see the movie. During our three-minute conversation, he urged us to see something else, like What to Expect When We're Expecting, which was a nonstarter for us. We stuck with our original plan and felt rewarded for persevering as the movie was very funny, although I totally understand why some wouldn't find it appealing. It's consistent with the previews, but unlike some comedy previews that include every gag in the film, The Dictator delivered considerably more than what was in the trailer. It was a softer, less discomfiting movie than Borat, but Cohen still managed to offend nearly everyone, including our theater manager who I believe was Iranian.

with apolgies to tolstoy, it seems that all old(er) guys are old in the same way but each one of us is unique in our crankiness.

I saw the Dictator last night with my 23 year old son. We snuck out at 11 leaving my wife at home, who cares not for cohen. We both lived Borat. We both were completely underwhelmed by the dictator. It was amusing at times, and he does have a great ability to surprise with his chracters, but in general the plot was silly (not in a good way, in a Brady Bucnh sort of way), and predictable, and the humor was so-so and occasioanlyl painfully overwrought and unfunny. On balance I think Borat was a much better and hugely more amusing film. I do not recommend the Dictator and wish I had not stayed up so late to see it.
              PLesa excuse the tpyos.

              • Last year's Senna, a documentary about the great Formula One champion is on Netflix instant. It was pretty great. The racing scenes are fantastic and it's always fascinating to gain insight into somebody who is among the best in the world at what they do.
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

Ah I tried to get into this one at Sundance but the available time/location didn't work out with my other flicks that day. Good to know it's on Netflix.

A French language movie w English subtitles set in Quebec. Basically a To Sir With Love sort of vibe, but younger kids- about 4th grade-ish? Really engaging, fun to watch cast and some great child acting.

I really enjoyed the movie throughout, but the story really didn't give me that much to chew on. Sort of a standard-issue growing up movie where the principal adult characters do some of the growing up. It was fun to watch, so I liked it.

                      • Snow White and the Huntsman.

What a gorgeous film. Everything is beautiful: the evil Queen, Snow White, the huntsman, the good guys, the bad guys, the scenery, the background, the overhead shots, the action. Everything except the 7 dwarves. Such a steady hand by rookie director Rupert Sanders. He must have cut his teeth on tv commercials or something.

The identical story to Mirror Mirror released earlier in the year, this movie feeds on beauty. Snow White could not have been played by any less a beauty than Kristen Stewart, she of the quivering full red lips. Charlize Theron also has an undeniable attractiveness, and she also came loaded with an interesting back story, evil as it was.

Don't think I am giving anything away when I confess that my favorite scene is the good army riding off to battle the evil queen, as they approach the castle on the beach. Yet again, gorgeous.

                        Two things that bugged me:

                        1. Snow White is travelling fast over ground, and climbs up into snow covered mountains. Where did she get that coat? No one else is dressed differently, but I guess pixies brought her the coat.

                        2. Holy Hannah does Kristen Stewart have huge ears that stick out. When they're covered by her hair, you dont notice, but in the scenes where her hair is pulled back into a ponytail, she looks like a jug with two large handles. Pull the hair over the ears, hair-and-makeup assistant.

                        Spoiler for Spoiler:
Right as Duke William was honing in to kiss Snow White, I stage whispered "wrong dude." I based my scientific guess on a careful study of the extant literature of Grimm's Fairy Tales, and a review of the legend of Snow White in particular. Either that, or the fleeting thought that huntsman Chris Hemsworth was way hotter than Duke William.

                        • Bernie. I liked it. Well written and well acted. Jack Black was better than I expected.

Both trailers shown I will try to see. The FDR movie with Bill Murray and Intouchable. I'm usually way too lazy to be interested in a movie that I have to read, but Intouchable looks fantastic.

Anderson's best movie. I doubt it will gross more than $50,000 in Utah, which might be generous.

I saw this last night. I also thought that the cinematography was good. But man, it was at least 30 minutes too long. I thought outside of the queen, the acting was subpar, and the dialogue weak. I'd give it a 'C'. I guess I'm disappointed that it could have been a lot better.
