I want to know if anyone has seen Prometheus. The wife and kids are out of town -- for THREE WEEKS -- I need something to do. I can only watch the Dreamers and Hot Dog the Movie so many times.

Is this movie worth the price of the ticket?

I just saw it (my wife and daughter are out of town too, and my wife would never see a sci-fi movie). It's quite a decent ride, as such movies go. Scott's artistry is evident and he knows how to play with an audience. I ended up caring a lot about the main character (played by Noomi Rapace, who does a great job in what i think is her first starring role). If you're looking for a good way to escape for 2+ hours, go see it, especially if you like the Alien series. It isn't going to win any Oscars (other than maybe for special effects, which are spectacular) but it's an engrossing tale and worth the price of admission.

I just saw this, despite this genre being squarely outside my wheelhouse. The feel-good movie of the summer!! j/k The previews looked too good and I couldn't resist. I have cared quite a bit about Noomi Repace since Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I think this might have been the Alien movie Ridley Scott would have made the first time 'round had he had the technology. There was a middle aged gentleman to my left who shrieked like a little girl at the jump scenes/squeamish parts. Pretty formulaic complete w/ the stupid characters whom you know are doomed, etc.. I thought this movie had a lot of nods to Alien

A fun, suspenseful 2 hours. Bring someone you love who is squeamish.

Moonrise Kingdom


This turned out better than I thought. A lot of heart and way less hipster chic than the trailer would have me believe, thankfully, despite the mess of hipsters that turned out for the 4:40 matinee (actually the theatre was packed with senior citizens-- this is Arizona, after all).

Way more stylized yet way more accessible than Wes Anderson's other stuff, and only awkward for its Blue Lagoon-lite moment. Not a serious movie, but not full-on comedy. A pleasant, mellow watch.

I agree, but after thinking about the movie overnight I finally figured out what bugged me about it - it's just too ambitious. Scott tried to do too much. Still, it was fun to watch.

By contrast, I saw "Snow White and the Huntsman" today (my bachelor movie-watching weekend continues) and really enjoyed it. Unlike "Prometheus," it's not hard to follow the story at all and I think it's a nice reworking of the Snow White legend. My expectations were a lot lower, of course, and that may be why I liked it so much. I was pleasantly surprised. Oh, and KL, I don't think Kristin Stewart's ears are all that big.

I pretty much agree. I saw the IMAX 3D version, which was great visually. The cinematography was excellent. It was a fun 2 hour ride. I thought the David character was done very well. Very suspenseful in parts. I had really high hopes for an existential 'where are we from' type movie at the beginning. But that part of the movie fell flat. It felt that it was setting up a sequel that might focus on that, though.

I'd give it a solid B.

Good point. It is too often kind of hard to take one's eyes off her face and think about what she is doing or saying. (Women have told me the same thing about Hugh Jackman.)

We saw Prometheus last night and I had similar thoughts as some of you. Visually stunning, overly ambitious, and the creation angle fell flat. Charlize's character seemed irrelevant to me as well. Does set up for a good sequel though.
