Sadly, I would likely not be admitted now. (28 ACT, 3.5 GPA)Originally posted by kccougar View PostLOL @ my freshman son bringing down the averages.

I don't know with weighted classes in HS its a lot easier to get a 4.0 than it once was. The valedictorian of my daughter's class had a 4.2 GPA.Originally posted by old_gregg View Postthe 4.0 and number one student stats are crazyDon't worry about people stealing your ideas. So BYU took the best student from 870 different high schools. That's pretty impressive. Lots of overachieving Mormons out there."It's devastating, because we lost to a team that's not even in the Pac-12. To lose to Utah State is horrible." - John White IV

Heh, there is no way I'd get in now. My GPA was embarrassingly low in HS, my ACT score was a 31 though which has to be the only way I got in in the first place.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostSadly, I would likely not be admitted now. (28 ACT, 3.5 GPA)

I had trouble, or I should say my Dad had trouble getting me in. Back then you needed a 2.35 and no ecclesiastical endorsement, at least I don't remember getting one. I had a lot of fun at USU so after my sophomore year my GPA was 2.17. Dad got a professor in Economics who had given me a D to raise it to a B. I think that got it in the 2.2's. He was buds with someone in admissions so I got an exemption and got in.
I didn't remain a slouch. I had a 3.6 majoring in accounting and a 3.95 at the U in the MBA program.

Another interesting stat is BYU's yield rate (percentage of students accepted who enroll). BYU's yield rate is around 80% just behind leader Harvard and similar to Stanford. Not bad company. My son didn't bring down BYU's 2016 stats (if they were based on admitted rather than enrolled) but chose to attend college elsewhere. So far my kid's are 3/3 in getting admitted to BYU but 1/3 in enrolling at BYU. So a couple of them are responsible for dragging down that yield stat.“Not the victory but the action. No way I would have been admitted. 3.01 GPA and 26 ACT. I did better my freshman year at a junior college, which I assume is the only reason why I got admitted."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. I was a 3.5 and 29. I relied on my extra curriculars and my seminary graduation certificate to get me in!Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostSadly, I would likely not be admitted now. (28 ACT, 3.5 GPA)

ACT: 34 english, 22 math, 28 science. Composite: 28
GPA: 92.6 = 3.704
Convert! I think I could've still gotten into BYU.
I don't know if I'd've gotten into Georgia Tech anymore since I didn't take calculus, let alone AP Calculus.
