I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

He looked good at SC's camp, at least the highlight films.
He and Max Wittek are going to battle it out with Jesse SCroggins when Barkley graduates. That will be a fun one to watch.
Bakersfield has 18 High Schools in the town itself. That isn't including anything in neighboring towns. (Bakersfield is almost 400k. Our town doesn't run on like the Utah towns. There are actual breaks between cities.)
We have some good kids going to D1 schools this year.
I am fairly sure that my boss' kid should have signed one today except for 2 things:
1. His school is only 3 years old and they don't have any infrastructure setup for getting kids to the next level yet. (TK2 will go to this school next year, so I may volunteer to help get something setup.)
2. They record/report no stats. So when coaches have asked about him they can give some tape, but they don't have numbers to pass along. (I may volunteer to also record/report stats for the next 4 years also.)
He is a MLB and FB. He will probably head to the local JC and start next year. The JC coaches were flabberghasted that he had no D1 offers and almost pissed themselves when they found out he was coming their way.

The slope to irrelevancy is a slippery and independent one.Originally posted by oxcoug View PostI don't know about all the doom stuff. There are a lot of individuals and organizations that have made great careers out of mediocrity - see most recent Ben Stiller movies for a reference.
So I'm not predicting an apocalypse for the Ute program, I'm just predicting comfortable middle-living right in the fleshy center of the PAC's gut. And, BTW, I'm not even saying I wouldn't choose the same thing for BYU if it were an option - I'm jealous as hell that you guys get to play host to ASU, UCLA, UW and OSU this year while we'll be dining on the meager fare of New Mexico St, La Tech and Utah. And I might choose your schedule over ours even if it meant (another) 5 loss season for us.
I'm just saying - I predict that the net gain for Utah in total recruiting quality will be nil in five years time. It will gain some recruits it might have previously lost to BYU or BSU because it's in a big conference. But I think it will also lose some recruits it might previously have won because it's going to stop being a perennial 10 win team that's tracked in and around the Top 10 for much of the past decade.
I don't see this as a prediction of doom. Just a prediction of steady, unexceptional, middle-aged comfort.

FWIW, Rivals ranks Utah 6th in in its first year in the PAC12 recruiting wars:
It looks like we did better than Washington State, which many CUFers consider to be Utah's peer school in the PAC12:
1. USC
2. Oregon
3. California
4. Stanford
5. Washington
6. Utah
7. UCLA
8. Arizona
9. Oregon State
10. Arizona State
11. Colorado

If Utah’s play at hyping its entrance to the P12 pays any dividends in recruiting in the short term (as DDD agrees will happen) then Utah stands to compete at a higher level in the P12 than your gloomy forecast would indicate. If Utah is able to compete in the top 3rd of the P12 straight out of the gate, then per your own formula, Utah will be able to gain even more momentum in recruiting.Originally posted by oxcoug View PostI don't know about all the doom stuff. So what I am saying is that even a recruiting boost due to the initial hype of P12 entry could sustain if high performance on the field is maintained with that improved talent. Good on the field performance can continue to attract better recruits and the cycle continues.
My guess is that the first 2-3 years in the P12 will be critical for Utah in order to set a tempo, otherwise, we’ll have to regroup and decide how to scratch and claw up from the rest of the mid-tier programs.
But it is great to have a mountain to climb ahead of the Utah program, as opposed to floating around in independent limbo, not knowing up from down or left from right.

I have missed the posts comparing you to Wazzu, who has made that claim? Though I am sure SU will not want to point to a snap shot in time where Utah is clear favorite to Wazzu, but can not hold a candle to their long and storied history that claims a national title, 4 trips to the Rose and 3 straight 10 win seasons.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostIt looks like we did better than Washington State, which many CUFers consider to be Utah's peer school in the PAC12:

I don't know the answer to this, but what was that ranking last year amongst the same sample set? It would be interesting to see if there was much difference.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostFWIW, Rivals ranks Utah 6th in in its first year in the PAC12 recruiting wars:

My earlier point was totally ignored which is par for the course amongst such a collection of hooligans and degenerates, but comparing Utah to USC or Texas or whatnot is silly. Compare Utah against previous Utah classes and I definitely think the Utes will see a jump in quality over the years, even if they finish in the middle of the PAC with a 7-5 record in any given season.
Utah's class today sort or supports this notion...look at the guys they were in the running to land....several 4 stars. And they closed the deal on two 4-stars, which is already showing improvement.
I blame all of this on oxcoug and his seemingly unquenchable thirst for Ute blood. We need to rename this emoticon :stirthepot: to "oxcoug"Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

I don't recall who made the comparison but it was made, more than once. (Maybe not many times.)
