In all seriousness 3D, I think you have given a fair assessment of the successes and barriers to success that Utah will experience entering the Pac-12 recruiting wars.

I think you should be easier on us. It is hard to keep coming up with responses to BYU fans who strive so earnestly to convince us that our program is doomed because we moved to the PAC12.

I don't know about all the doom stuff. There are a lot of individuals and organizations that have made great careers out of mediocrity - see most recent Ben Stiller movies for a reference.

So I'm not predicting an apocalypse for the Ute program, I'm just predicting comfortable middle-living right in the fleshy center of the PAC's gut. And, BTW, I'm not even saying I wouldn't choose the same thing for BYU if it were an option - I'm jealous as hell that you guys get to play host to ASU, UCLA, UW and OSU this year while we'll be dining on the meager fare of New Mexico St, La Tech and Utah. And I might choose your schedule over ours even if it meant (another) 5 loss season for us.

I'm just saying - I predict that the net gain for Utah in total recruiting quality will be nil in five years time. It will gain some recruits it might have previously lost to BYU or BSU because it's in a big conference. But I think it will also lose some recruits it might previously have won because it's going to stop being a perennial 10 win team that's tracked in and around the Top 10 for much of the past decade.

I don't see this as a prediction of doom. Just a prediction of steady, unexceptional, middle-aged comfort.

He looked good at SC's camp, at least the highlight films.

He and Max Wittek are going to battle it out with Jesse SCroggins when Barkley graduates. That will be a fun one to watch.

This seems like a pretty good assessment. Do any Utes really think going to the PAC has increased the Ute's chances of making noise on a national scale? Like oxcoug, this doesn't mean going to the PAC is bad by any means, but it does come with a price.

In the long run, I see Utah performing at level similar to the Arizona schools. They'll occasionally have decent teams, but they'll be ranked far less often than they have been the last several years and I don't see them going to a BCS bowl anytime soon.

We'll come up with new material when you guys come up with more original, compelling "insight" on how Utah is going to drift aimlessly in mediocrity for the next five years. Insight that actually comes to fruition.

That said, BYU fans like oxcoug (and yourself) are without shame. Even after the biggest face-plant in the history of the rivalry in 2008, with the "quest" and the second-biggest after our Pac-12 invite, you guys are still coming back for more.

We won. For eternity. Now go start scouting WCC hoops recruiting already, and leave the serious recruiting talk for the big boys.

Serious recruiting talk? Now that is great you guys are pumped about stealing a 3 star kid from ASU, Boise and Utah State. Pac-12 invite is paying huge dividends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since 2003 Utah has had two legitimate top 20 teams (2003 and 2009) and two legitimate top 10 teams (2004 and 2008) and the most likely reason for 2007 and 2010 not being legitimate top 20 teams was injuries so I don't think recruiting has been a problem for them in the MWC. I am not so convinced that finishing in the midd tier of the Pac-12 (between 4th and 7th) most years with the occasional sneak into the top tier, which I think is what will happen, is going to have much impact on their recruiting. I think if they can have a year where all the dominoes line up properly and nobody gets hurt they will still have the talent to make a top 10 run in the Pac like they did from the MWC. I don't understand the shrilling metrosexual crimson clad faithful who think their recruiting needs a significant upgrade.

Splitting hairs here but you could change '2003' to the Mesozoic without changing the truthfulness of that statement.

I think Utah will continue to recruit players despite now being in the Pac 12.
