I think the scoreboard operator and the play by play guys were watching another game on ESPN3 while ours was going on. That's the only explanation I can come up with. Or maybe they were doing a statistical analysis of the top 10 worst completion % in the history of college football? Or verifying Tyler's height?
Or making sure that the announcer s know that dres Anderson is the son of flipper Anderson and murphy is the son of Dale Murphy

I'm not saying Utah sports radio is good in any form, but why would anyone who doesn't want to get riled up listen to anything on 1280? I'm pretty sure none of the DJs have played sports beyond high school, yet they talk like they know the game intimately. They are a bunch of broadcast journalism (ie communications majors) nerds who like to poke a stick at BYU fans and provoke UofU fans. Its their business model.
I know you guys love to hate all the locals but DJ knows is stuff and ten or so years ago was a very solid basketball player.
Since when is playing a sport beyond high school a prerequisite for knowledge of a sport? I'd put my mom's knowledge of football up against most of you guys and her experience is watching my football games, BYU Football, and attending Lavell Edward's Football for Women class at Education Week.

There are some pretty good guys on local radio. DJ's biggest problem is that he is saddled with PK. PK's biggest problem is that he destroys the 10% that he does on his show that is good with 90% of trying to sing, trying to make jokes about how much DJ makes, or following up with any small mispronunciation or misspoken word with 45 minutes of giggles and repeating the word. I've only seen snippets of any Beavis and Butthead show, but that is what his act reminds me of. It makes me sad when he has a few minutes of lucid discussion and I realize what they could be. But maybe he's worried that he couldn't fill 3-4 hours with that. He's only got 30 minutes of actual thought, so he has to spread it throughout the show a few seconds at a time.
Gunther is good. I'm not sure he'll continue to be good on his own. Graham was actually the best he's been in Utah when paired with Gunther. With Monson, he was a train wreck. I hope they get Gunther some help because it would be sad if he disappeared.
Jensen is good too. I think he tends to have some pretty good takes. Honestly, I don't listen enough to know if he brings it daily or if I just happened along into some of his better stuff. But I could see him doing well given the right circumstances.
And in all reality - Spencer Checketts even has moments that he is pretty good. Some of his opinions I disagree with, but he seems to at least be able to back up his thoughts with some semblance of logic that makes them at least debatable.
Some of the others just need to go away. And some are extremely hamstrung by their co-host.

Riley Jenson and guests who have played college football talk Xs and Os. Everyone else talks "fire Bronco" "bench the QB" "has Utah surpassed all the other state schools"... Etc. Alema and Criddle are great. Maybe its just personal preference. I don't like listening to talk that is designed to rile people up.

PK's a bright guy. He just doesn't show it. He could do a good, interesting show, but goes for the lowbrow tactics you've described.
I like Gunther, he's probably my favorite guy on the radio right now. I like Riley Jensen a lot as well. Jake and Tony are a pair of idiots. I don't know how Jake went from intern to producer to host, but I don't like his voice and he just tries to rile people up. I think Checketts and Monson are the worst. The Big Show. LOL.

Wow. Education week.
I think we all just got insulted.

Hey now. Lavell Edwards has forgotten more about what he taught women about football during education week than most of us know in our little pinkie. Or something like that.
And when did he injure his vagina? Apparently sometime in 2011 and it hasn't fully healed?
I think you may need to retake basic anatomy. Unless his vagina is in his head I think the precise moment he went from a budding star to tentative headcase was following the concussion he suffered his freshman year.
