Than you for starting this thread. I was thinking a lot about stopping BYUs offense last night, it seems the easy answer is to stack 8 in the box and force Taysom to throw. However I was listening to an interview with Packers D-coordinator Dom Capers when a reporter asked the same thing about stopping Kapernick and the 49ers. He said the read option has evolved it is not like the old school triple option where you can just stack the box and play assignment sound football. Teams are running the read option with 3 and 4 receivers out wide. How can you stack the box with 8 guys if a team has 4 WRs do you just leave a guy open?
If BYU has Lasike, Williams, Hill in the backfield, and 3 WRs split out wide. Utah has a choice they can leave every WR one on one (including Hoffman) and put 8 in the box with no safety help or they can leave a safety and put 7 in the box. IF they put 7 in the box and BYU blocks the way it did against Texas that is a huge advantage.
The best option according to Capers was to play to a zone coverage and have your LBs read run or pass at the snap. Utah however plays very little zone and they are a a strict man to man team. I think this bodes well for the cougars run game. I could see Utah rolling a safety to Hoffmans side and leaving Mathews, Apo, Ridley etc. one on one. If Taysom can find those guys we should have no problem moving the ball.
I am bummed it is two weeks away. Any word on game time yet?
Whatever is scheduled + 2 hours.

I like the thread title. I'm pretty pumped about this game. Making my annual pilgrimmage back to the UC including day of golf with cousins the day before the game.
I think Wilson will do a lot more to try to expose our depleted CBs than Texas did. Whittingham will certainly scheme to force Taysom complete passes to move the ball. However, if our OL performance against Texas wasn't a fluke or entirely due to Texas's ineptitude, then I don't think it will matter and we will win. I am feeling pretty good about this game overall.
Latest injury updates after the texas game? Who is hurt, who is out, who is questionable?
My ticket for the Utah game indicates that this is a Royal Blue game. I have had mixed game results with my Beet Digger tee, but I'm tempted to go all in for this game and slap it on.

Wilson looks much improved. It will be interesting to see if BYU can get the same pass rush with just 3 or 4 that they did Saturday. I doubt it. Also someone is going to have to spy Wilson to keep him from breaking off a long run.

Both Jamaal and Bronco said he was fine after the game. He was my biggest worry. He even tweeted he'll be ready for Utah.

i actually like a lot of the royal gear currently at the book store. if everyone didn't already have the "royal, strong, and true" nike shirt i'd definitely get it.
