I haven't had a chance to go back and read through the entire thread. Fantastic game on pretty much every level. I only have one complaint, and i'm sure it has already been raised in the thread. I feel a little bad complaining at all after a win like that. However, it has been a complaint I've been making for nearly 4 years, and I'm not about to stop now. When the eff is Apo going to learn to catch with his hands? At this point, it appears to be never. His attempt on that jump ball in the back of the EZ was about as piss-poor as you'll ever see from someone with his size and (alleged) athleticism and talent. I swear he tried to go up and let if fall into his chest rather than reach out with his arms. And then the drop on the slant later in the game when he let the ball hit him in the pads instead of reaching out and catching it with his hand--like every other college WR would have--was just ridiculous. This ain't 'intermurals', Ross. It's Division 1 football! It's the Big 12!

I actually don't think that Apo attempt in the back of the EZ has been mentioned. But I did mention it to my dad on a ride to the airport this morning! I agree, just a terrible attempt on the part of Apo. There was no adjustment to the ball. A ball probably caught or at least has a chance to be caught if it's Hoffman. Has nice size and I guess decent speed, but at times seems like he has no clue how to play the position.

I haven't read the entire thread either but here's my take.

Fun atmosphere, strange game. The physical dominance by BYU on both lines was staggering. Running: awesome, passing: not awesome. Watching Jamaal, Taysom, KVN, Fua, Bronson, et al in beast mode was a thing of beauty.

On a side note: during a 3rd quarter TO I looked to the tunnel and noticed a chiseled-abbed (clearly visible thru his BYU shirt), backwards-hat wearing, BYU fan start his way up the bleachers, a beautiful blonde daughter of Eve in tow. No one seemed to take notice though a visible blue aura surrounded him. Scarcely had this light decended upon me...er...as I was close to the aisle I simply said "Riley" to give him a little shout out. Having finally been noticed he gave me a nod and continued on his way. A Texas fan with whom I'd been talking much of the game asked "Friend 'o yers?" to which my reply was simply "Nah, just last year's starting quarterback." Without missing a beat the Texas fan looked back at him and again back at me and said "Why the Hell is walking up to the nose-bleed section". I didn't know what to say.

The Heisman Trophy has been awarded 77 times. 11 of the winners were from the state of Texas. That is 14% or 1 out of 7.
The state of California is #1 with 14 winners.
Looking at population, California is #1 and Texas #2. Based on population alone, one would expect Texas to get 6.7 awards, and California would get 9.8. Based on that, Texas is overachieving at a rate of 1.65 and California is overachieving at a rate of 1.44.
Not sure if any California school has ever had a Heisman winner from Texas (they haven't in my lifetime) but Ricky Williams played HS football in the San Diego area.

Apo came to BYU expecting his buddy Jake Heaps would be throwing the ball. I blame the coaches for letting Heaps go and not keeping up their end of the bargain.

Phil Steele gives BYU his highest game grade of the week.

It is well documented that I was very high on Texas this year, but last week was not the best situation for them traveling to altitude while playing a BYU team that was off a misleading game against Virginia. Kudos to the Cougars who rushed for an amazing 550 yards including QB Taysom Hill who ran for 259, the 2nd most by a QB in the last 10 years. Their dominating 40-21 win over the Horns gives them the top performance of the week!

Don't worry. Hasru only shows his face once we have a loss. He is ALWAYS absent when BYU has a win... With that knowledge. here's hoping we don't see Hasru till the off season or next year!!!

Yeah, that'd make me look like I don't give a shit on play after play for a few years, too.

His level of effort reminds me of some 13 year old's on my daughter's soccer team that have all the talent and abilities to play at the highest level but just don't try/care. From a 13 year old I can let it slide, maybe their parents are forcing them to do something they hate, but a D-I football player in his 20s?
